Just moved to Bristol
« on: October 28, 2011, 02:49:21 PM »
Hello there! I'm not exactly new, but I've not been on in a while.  Anyway, after nearly seven years in London (transplanted from Ohio), I have just moved with my wife to Bristol so she can take up a new job. Just curious how many of us there are around here? Also, where's a good place to pick up Thanksgiving supplies? I knew plenty of places in London, but I don't know where to start here.

Many thanks!

I'm not in Bristol, but welcome back!  I hope someone can help you find what you need for Thanksgiving.  :)

Thanks! Either we don't have anyone here in Bristol, they're not on often, or they're not looking at the Welcome Wagon. Will ask in other areas more food appropriate. :o)

I'm just trying to work out what Thanksgiving supplies are. Other than pumpkin pie, most of my standard T'day treats are easy to get here.

Anyhoo, welcome back.

Well, I guess pie mix is one. But biscuit mix is another. Not very good at doing them from scratch. I guess the real question is where does a good range of American imports? :op

And thank you, we're settling in just fine. I love this place and we're so glad to be out of London (despite missing it!)

Lived in Bristol for a year and really liked it. If you have a jones for island food there's a great little Caribbean stall in the market.... superb oxtail....black beans and rice....

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.  There used to be a Wholefoods owned store there to get American supplies but it shut down.  There also used to be an American food store in Bath but it has also shut down.  Waitrose seems to be the best option thereafter.

Somebody told me the other day there's a Costco in Avonmouth. You can get "Philly cheesesteaks" (whatever those are?) in the cafeteria.
