US paperwork - How long do you keep it?
« on: October 11, 2011, 03:32:19 PM »
How long do you tend to keep US paperwork after moving to the UK?

I'll be keeping visa-related stuff, tax-related stuff, but I have a ton of random US paperwork and would love to finally get rid of it.

Stuff like:

Receipt of license plate return when I sold my car.
Receipt of Fast Lane Pass return.
Final paycheck from my old job.
DHL/FedEx receipts when I shipped some stuff over.
Final utility bills from the US when I stopped everything.
Paperwork from a car accident in 2009.
Receipt that I returned Verizon's equipment.
Junk removal payment receipt.
US store card closure verifications.

Etc and etc.

Is there any reason to keep stuff like this anymore?

Scan it and bin it!  ;D

I did bring a decent bit of paperwork with me though. Things like birth certificates, social security statements, tax docs for the last 7 years, all those important docs that you likely need an original copy of.

All those items you mentioned were of the type that I decided I didn't need an actual copy of, so I just scanned it and saved a pdf of it.

I was going to say scan it too.

My doctor also advised taking copies of health records and x-rays. Also dental records. I don't know if your UK doctor would want to keep copies of these or not. If not probably a good idea to hang on to them.

I'm doing this for myself and my daughter. Especially since it WILL be useful to have her diagnosis etc handy when getting her services for her autism related therapies, schooling etc. ;D
