Places With a Good Variety of Salad Dressings?
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:10:57 PM »
I am looking for a raspberry walnut vinaigrette or something similar, and of course all of the supermarkets nearby have nothing but your standard Thousand Island, Balsamic, French, Honey Mustard, and Caesar. And about 40 varieties of salad cream/mayonnaise.

There are a couple of tiny gourmet type shops in the village nearby that I might go look at, even just to find something else that's nice, since I know I'm looking for something kind of too specific.

However, for future reference, I am wondering if there is some place (real or online) that I don't know about that might have a more unusual selection of dressings, or even the ingredients (like raspberry vinegar or walnut oil, for instance) to make dressings?

Any ideas?  :)

Thanks CB! Those look great. I think I will probably need to try that blackberry one!  ;) The prices are pretty reasonable as well. I love trying new dressings, so I may have to put some of those on ye olde Christmas list.  :)

My BF reminded me that there is a place in Glasgow called Oil & Vinegar that does all kinds of, well, oils and vinegars.  :P I feel like a bit of a numpty because I bought his mum something from there last Christmas, and totally forgot it existed! It's a bit out of my price range for individual ingredients at the moment, but I thought I would share anyway.  :)

I always found Waitrose to have a fantastic selection. Have you ever tried to make your own dressing?

If you can't find any in store, NoseoverTail, I've made raspberry vinaigrette before with raspberry jam and it turned out really nice.  Here's a recipe similar to what I used http://southernfood.about.com/od/saladdressings/r/blbb87.htm

Unfortunately there aren't that many Waitroses up here (only 4 in the whole of Scotland, I think) and none of them deliver to me.  :-\\\\ I used to live right next to the one in Glasgow, and I miss it so! When I am in Glasgow next, I might drop by.

I considered making my own, but for this occasion at least, I'm short on time to get the stuff needed and none of the shops nearby have much in the way of ingredients to do that, at least not for something outside of the realm of balsamic vinaigrette. That and I'm being kind of picky since it's for my Thanksgiving tomorrow and I had something special in mind.  :)

Thanks for this! I'll have to give it a try soon! :)
