It would be wonderful if Sesame St came to PBS. I haven't noticed that much for toddlers that is American. There's lots for older children but nothing really for toddlers so Sesame st would be great to have!

I think thats actually the point. There are rules in place for British programming for toddlers.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recently advised that children under the age of 2 should watch no television at all. Those over the age of 2 should watch no more than 1-2 hours of "quality" TV.

My problem with Sesame Street and similar children's programming is the accent the children pick up (and I'm talking about US kids here). You notice that young kids playing together (especially where they use "voices" to act something out or "talk" for their dolls/animals) have very heavy non-regional TV accents. So I can understand British parents objecting to their children watching American programming.

But In the Night Garden and Teletubbies are ok?  They don't even use words, let alone teach anything.

PBS UK have said on their FB page that Sesame Street is likely to be scheduled in the future.

If you've got it, Babytv is good for younger programming. The shows are only like 5 minutes and there are a ton of songs and nursery rhymes shown in between. It's very entertaining for their little brains.

Is PBS going to be available on Freeview, or is it on satellite only? I looked on the FB page and couldn't find the info.

That's interesting. DH just signed up for the Virgin bundle, having been without telly for years now.

I can't believe I hadn't caught that! Many of my favourite things are joint WGBH/BBC productions, so we'll see what the line-up is like on a commercial PBS network where I'm guessing they won't do as many of the BBC costumy things. I won't complain ever though when I get things like Ken Burns--love his projects, and I can't wait to dig into a new one tonight on prohibition.  Thanks for this note!
