Staying in touch with smart phone apps
« on: October 02, 2011, 08:02:32 PM »
Hello all! I just thought I would share a few things my DF and I use to keep in touch (he has an iPhone and I have a droid).

1. What's app: this is a free way to text each other. It's great, we use it everyday! You can send pics, videos, text, locations, etc.

2. Tango: This app is sort of like Skype. You get free voice and video calls.

3. Skype mobile: just like Skype on the computer, great to use when your on the go and need to have a quick chat!

4. Words with Friends: scrabble game that I play with US and UK friends. Just something fun.

I'm sure a lot of you know about these, but I thought it couldn't hurt to spread the word  :)  I'm always looking for new ways to stay connected with my man! If anyone else has something different that they use please share!

I used to have BBM, but I got rid of my Blackberry and got an Android. I wish BBM was sold to other companies because it was amazing. Whats App isn't the best, loads of message delays, failed new message alerts, ect but I guess it does the job. I love Words with Friends too! I just got my boyfriend playing it against me and its great.

I've been using, or I should say trying to use, viber to stay in contact with DF, but I find that the quality is horrible. Would you say Tango is better?

Rebtel works the best for us.   :)  We didn't really like Viber or Tango.  Skype mobile is OK.  My DH had been using Skype lately since it only uses his minutes.

Would you say Tango is better?

I've never used Viber, so I'm not sure if it's better or not. I still prefer Skype to Tango.

Been using Viber, but having issues with connection. It cuts out frequently! :-\\\\ Anyone else having this problem? Which app do you like better?

My fiance and I just started using HeyTell.  I'm pretty much in love with it because it's just like a text message but instead of being text it's a voice message so I actually get to hear his voice (and accent!).  And it's free.  I wish we would have found this years ago...might have made the distance a bit easier, not to mention saved a lot of money on phone bills!

Just discovered an app called Voxer, sounds a lot like Heytell.  It is like a walkie talkie. You can record a message and send it. Voxer seems to work great. I agree, its wonderful to hear the accent in a quick message  :)

Yup, sounds the same!  Getting little voice messages totally makes my day!
