Need to sell a car fast! Suggestions?
« on: November 12, 2011, 02:00:51 PM »
So my OH's job offer came through, and now we need to sell the car we just bought barely 6mo ago. We have left a message with the dealer he bought it from, but we would like other suggestions of how to get it sold as quickly as possible.

How safe is using Ebay or Autotrader? How do I evaluate what the car is worth? Back in the states I'd use Kelly Blue Book or NADA or Edmunds.com. Where do I look here?

We sold our car in the UK in less than a week through AutoTrader and got our asking price as well.

If you choose to use Ebay I would strongly suggest that you impose a minimum bid.

Anyone heard of webuyanycar.com or carbuyerscotland.com? I'm looking up reviews on them, but wondering if anyone on here has heard of them?

We checked webuyanycar & they offered us £250 for our car, we sold it on AutoTrader for £1600 (2001 Focus). That was going to be our last resort if it didn't sell in the 2 weeks that we had left in the UK. Thankfully it sold off AutoTrader.

I was going to say this,  webuyanycar is a quick but low payment option.

We've successfully sold our last two cars on ebay and got a great deal on our "new" car as well.  The best time to start a new 7 day listing is on a Sunday evening as you tend to get more bids that way.  Best of luck!

The husband and I sold our 2.5-year-old Kia Picanto through webuyanycar.com, and received £3,500 for it.

I think it depends on what kind of car you have. If you have a smallish, economical one, it'll probably go faster than a guzzler at the moment.

We were happy dealing with webuyanycar, though.

Ebay is not a bad option. DH and I have been watching Ebay for our area.. We need a second car.

What make and model are you selling? How much are you looking for?

We are selling a Kia Pro'Ceed 2. It's a 3door, diesel engine, 2010 model. We are hoping for around £6500, but we'll see what we can get. We've done a valuation with webuyanycar.com and carbuyerscotland.com. The latter gave us a decent valuation online, so we booked an appointment for Sat. so we can see what the final value would be.

Ideally, if we had more time, we'd go do Ebay or Autotrader cuz the car is selling for more than £8k on there. But given we are leaving in under 3 weeks, we just don't have the time. I hope we end up with a good deal so we can have enough to pay back my in-laws (they helped us buy it) and have a good down payment on a car back in the States.

Just to update if folks want this info in the future. We ended up going with a place called carbuyerscotland.com They are similar to webuyanycar.com, but they gave us a much better value for the car than webuyanycar. It was pretty quick and painless.

I know we could have gotten a better price if we had the time to sell privately, but all things considering, it was a pretty good deal.
