Retired military with soon-to-be-retired Aussie wife
« on: November 15, 2011, 06:51:33 PM »
Hello everybody, what an interesting site.  My wife anticipates retirement in 2-2.5 years, has many relatives in England and so we are considering living there for possibly up to half the year, each year.  We've visited several times and are aware of the breathtaking costs involved, but still want to try, just don't know the legal aspects (taxes on US income, duration of stay limits, etc).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Cheers.

Hm. I'm not sure how you'd handle that, visa-wise. They've eliminated the retired persons of means visa. A regular entry is for up to six months, but whether you could do that formally and repeatedly every year, I do not know. I'm not one of the sages of the forum, though.

Welcome. I hope it works out for you. Word to the wise: make it the six months between April and September  :)
