We are having more trouble finding the grooms garb.  We're getting hitched in my home town (ity bity thing) and he wants a proper "Morning Suit".  Hard to find...we may have to make the 2 hour drive to Seattle to find it.

Me, I'm wearing Mom's dress...georgeous satin and lace, just a touch ivory now with old age.  I knew what I was wearing before he even asked!  :)

But yes, every gal I know has gone through the dress agony...

There was no way I could get my big toe in my mother's wedding dress - you're very lucky, Frances.  :)  My grandmother wore the dress, then my mother, and I've made her keep it because one of my boys may end up with a girl who would be pleased to wear it---or have a daughter of their own one day who would like to wear it.  I mean, how do you get rid of a wedding dress?!  It's just not right - even if the marriages weren't exactly stellar.  ::)

All five of my sisters turned thier noses up at the dress when they got married (silly girls that they are) though they looked lovely in the dresses that they chose...and NOW, three of the five are upset that I'm wearing it--mostly because Mom announced that I get to KEEP it, since I'm the one creating the memories in it and all.  The eldest thought it would automatically go to her as an "heirloom" for her daughters...oh well, she'll get over it...

I have to let the shoulders out a tad, and the lace sleeves need to be enlarged...I lift wieghts so my arms are just a tad bigger than Mom's were.  I'm just so happy that I am able to wear the dress.  Mostly because Mom is soooooo happy that one of her daughters wanted to...and because I just saved $600 that can go towards our honeymoon in Hawaii :)

Just a side bar...Mom's gown was $60 in 1969.  And it's a full-on formal gown for a Catholic nuptual mass...long trane and all... I saw something quite similar last week at David's Bridal with the great lace and satin...$625!!!  Plus tax!!!  WOW!!!  Talk about inflation!!

Mens Wearhouse has the closest thing to Morning Dress that we found.  The only thing we were lacking that my husband wanted were top hats.  We could have rented them from a company in New York, but paid throught the nose in Shipping to get them back on time.  Or pay $80 a hat to keep them.  Needless to say, we went without hats and he still had a great day.

We got morning suits for the whole wedding party at a regular tux rental place.  They should be able to get it for you.  Since when do they not need to outfit those of us with weddings before 6pm?

We had a huge problem, though, with the vests.  I did NOT want the awful Edward VIII "open-back" vest.  I HATE those things.  You know, two triangles of cloth in the front and a belt across the back.  I wanted proper vests.

My hubby assured me they found them...wasn't until a year or so after the wedding that I discovered nobody had proper vests, and so the whole male side of the wedding party was warned under pain of death to NOT, under any circumstances, remove their jackets.   ;D

That's GREAT!!  How funny!

As for top hats, I know that Paul would like one.  I'm sure that we'll be able to find one in Seattle.

I have talked to the local men's shop in the next town, and I guess that Mr. Mosser has a contract with the Tux Shop to sub-rent, as we are just a small place with no real cause for Tux rental save for weddings and prom.  So, I will pop in the the Tux shop when next in Seattle, then let Mr Mosser know what I'd like him to get in for me.  It's a couple $$ more this way, but I'd only have to have them returned to the next town, 30 miles from home rather than 100+ miles to Seattle.

All of this for a morning suit.  But Paul will be SOOOO happy to have it...

LOL. Saf, that is SO funny! I suppose "what you don't know won't hurt you" eh?

Jamie actually is dragging his feet soooo much about his clothes that I'm starting to panic a bit. Anyone have any idea how close you can leave suit rental?? I told him that his choice is: either dry clean his old suit (which I hate, but I'm trying to be agreeable) and buy a new shirt and tie or rent a proper morning suit. He's done neither and we now have two weeks.  :o  ::) I purposely didn't give him that many tasks to do for the wedding as he's a notorious procrasinator, but I am now very close to really regretting letting him do any of it!!!

Dh didn't rent his tux until, I believe, the week before.  At the very least his Brit best man didn't, because he wasn't in town un til the week before.

As long as it's not Prom weekend and he isn't a difficult size, it should be pretty easy.  (You might want to get him down to the rental places now, though!   :))

It took me a day to find and buy my dress (I tried on four dresses)... the agony comes in trying to get it shipped from the island I bought it on to the island I currently live on and then HOPING it fits without alterations. And if not, I think having an open back - semi laced corset is becoming, don't you??? :D Oh well, not everything goes as planned.

As for the intended - I bought him and his brother nice aloha shirts and they get to use black slacks. It's so much easier when you're in Hawai'i - a nice shirt can do wonders!
