Fruit Snacks?
« on: October 07, 2003, 12:38:46 PM »
Do we have 'em here in Engerland? I mean the good old American half-plastic shark-and-dinosaur shaped fruit snacks - nothing healthy!!! I looked all over Tesco's yesterday and didn't see them. We've got a Waitrose as well, may try there today if I feel like walking. :)

Do you mean like the little shaped gummy-type snacks?  We found Gushers at Selfridges - but the price was a BIT extreme.  Mom mailed some over instead, and it was STILL cheaper!  ::)

Or do you mean like the pressed fruit snack stuff?  Found some yesterday called "Fruit Leather" (appetising, eh?).  I think I've seen it in the 'healthy' food sections, too, but don't hold me to that!

I have looked and looked and I unfortunately have found none.  I brought a supply with me when I came over.  The closest thing I could find are the fruit winders which are basically the fruit roll ups in the US.  I thought Costco might have them because they carry Skippy and Krispy saltines but alas...nothing.  I miss them terribly because even though you know you aren't actually giving your kids fruit you can fool yourself into believing it is healthy and not just junk food! :)

FRUIT LEATHER?!  ;D
Sadly, that's what I want, I suppose I'll be stocking up when I go back in November then, eh?

Fruit leather... honestly....

Vegetarian gummy bears might float your boat.  You can get them at Holland and Barrett.

Fruit Leather? ??? ;)

I know exactly what you are talking about! "Fruit leather" its organic and acutally made with *real fruit.* It's good stuff but I can't even find it in Minneapolis.

Resurrecting this old thread to ask if anyone has found a good answer to this.  (I'm really relieved I'm not the only one who misses these things, even though I guess they're meant to be for kids!)  My amazing mother has just sent me a Christmas box and included My Little Pony (!) fruit snacks and it made me realise how much I miss them.

I gave some to my flatmate and asked him to try them and he suggested I get some jelly sweets, like fruit gums or Randoms, but I've tried them already and they're not the same!  And now I'm dying for some Shark Bites or Gushers.

I don't know anything about the "fruit snacks" you're talking about, but have you tried the Natural Confectionary Company's sweets?  I think it would be a stretch to call them fruit snacks... they are definitely candy!

But they have no artificial colours or flavours.  Maybe this will help?

They have fruit snacks in the section where they sell the jelly/Jello.  Not sure if they have non-vegetarian gelatin in them or not.

If you're just looking for gummy worms, they have tonnes of those.  A lot of them have HFCS under the guise of glucose-fructose syrup (just a word of warning).

As per the previous post - near jelly etc there are loads of 'fruit' snacks.  My son is particularly fond of the fruit string (the same thing also comes as star shapes).  There are all sorts of small bags of these style snacks along with yoghurt coated fruit pieces etc.

Concerning the gummy-gelatine-vegetarian problem: I can't speak for fruit snacks, but I have found vegetarian Haribo and veggie Percy Pigs recently. (I will admit to making trips to M&S specifically for veggie Percy Pigs!)
