« on: October 15, 2011, 09:29:16 PM »
My fiance' and I are looking at a VERY short engagement and would like to get married within the next 2-3 months...

US is out due to his record, and we don't want to deal with hassle with UK

So...Suggestions for a Easy destination wedding?

Mr K and I were married in Jamaica due to US visa issues.  We got married at the Sandals in Negril.  You needed to be there for a couple of days before the wedding, but other than that, it was really easy.

When we were looking we found a part of Italy that does weddings last minute and you don't have to be a resident.  It looked lovely- right on the coast.  I'll try to find the website we looked at if you would be interested.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Gibraltar doesn't have any residency requirements and is English-speaking, which helps because you won't have to translate your certificate for visas, etc.

We were there a few weeks ago and, in my opinion, it isn't a particularly nice place. Except for the apes, of course. The apes are very good.

We got married in Paphos, Cyprus, and only had to be there for two or three days prior to the wedding (don't remember if it was two or three, but not more than three).

We got married in Barbados. English speaking. No residency requirement. Just flashed our passports and that was it! Our original marriage certificate was given to us a few hours after the wedding! :)

*shrug* I spent a day in Gibraltar on the way to Morocco a few years ago. It's not a fabulous destination but I liked it well enough. You could always take a side trip to Spain while there, it's very easy to walk over the border.

SO here is one of the companies we looked at: http://www.italyweddings.com/easy.html

They help arrange transport, translators... ect.  Not sure what your budget is like.

But these were the people we were going to go with until plans changed again!

They were very nice and had many different packages depending on the size and location you wanted.  Hope that helps!

We just got married Wednesday in Larnaka, Cyprus.

No waiting period or any of that--fee of 281.90 Euros and you can get married the day you arrive. And it's an absolutely brilliant place to relax, especially during the off season (right now). We got a 2 bedroom flat for 7 nights for only £220.

I can't recommend it enough!

Weird.  There was a troll in here last year planning to marry in Cyprus. Small world, weird coincidences.
