Cloth Nappies
« on: July 22, 2004, 10:42:42 PM »
As B-day is coming closer we are stocking up on our baby essentials. I told my mum I wanted to use cloth nappies and she has bought us a pack of the old style kind with pins, I suppose I should have shown her  the nice Bambino Mio ads in the baby mags I've been reading!  I'm just wondering what kind of cloth nappies anyone else has used and whether it is really worth spending a bit extra on the lovely designer type ones which have velcro or popper fastenings or whether the old fashioned kind with the pins are just as easy to use.

Oh, there's a BIG difference!!!! I tried both kinds, and the old kind TOTALLY frustrated me, even though I used to work in a daycare where some of the parents used the old pinned kind.  The fitted kind with adjustable snaps were GREAT.  As long as I kept washing frequently, and didn't let them, er, stew in their own juices too long.   :P

These are made in Cornwall, I've heard good things about the company - and they're so cute!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I have been looking around for some cloth nappies, not because I want my baby to wear them, but because that's what I used with my first child as ''burp rags''. lol  They're GREAT for when baby decides to throw up on you and easy to wash out. Where do I get them from?  <btw my baby was due Wednesday and still not signs of it coming   :-\\\\> I just want the old plain cloth nappies.  :)

That's funny because that is what I thought I would probably end up using the ones my mum bought for. :) You can get them from Mothercare and I have also seen them on a few of the online nappy places.

Have you tried raspberry leaf tea by the way? that is supposed to help bring labour on and make it easier somehow (yeah right!)

About rasberry leaf tea.  When I went two days past my due date, I made a really strong Rasberry Leaf tea and gulped it down (I had never had it before), then my dh and I, um, 'did it', and 2 hours later labor hit me like a ton of bricks

But I have friends that have used it, drinking it through the 3rd trimester, and liking it.

I used cloth ones with the velcro but used ones that needed pins if I ran out during the day before washing.  I liked the velcro ones and felt they were worth the extra dosh plus the peace of mind knowing the kid wouldn't be accidentally stuck by a pin.

Well I decided to give good ole terry towelling nappies a go since my mum bought me a whole stack of them and so far so good, although we are using disposables when we go out and also a couple of times in the middle of the night. Only one problem: I wasted 3 pairs of the plastic overpanties in the dryer!! In fact ine pair was melted onto the back of the drum and had to be scraped off!!  Now we have to make a special trip to Mothercare to get some more because Boots & superdrug don't sell them. They don't even sell nappy liners. It's a conspiracy to make me use disposables!!

I've done that a few times with plastic-backed bibs.  *sigh*

I find this one funny. I was told by my doc here in the states to drink raspberry leaf tea to help with my nausea through my whole pregnancy. It didn't work along with the almonds, B6 pills and every other "home remedy". I had to be put on a pill that they use for chemo patients.
