The guy told me I had to take it up with new york, as that's who issued it.  I told him someone at croydon told me to get it in new york, but he said I paid them for it, therefore I'd have to go to them for a refund.
So do I go to new york?  I'm a bit baffled here.

That was a bit of beaurocratic juggling to an unknowning party!  Consulates do not have the authority to make refunds.  Cheeeeeesh.

Ok, You need to write to the North American Desk at the Foreign Office here in London.   I would advise not to let go because it's £255 plus travel expenses to recoup.  In the end, it will all come right back to Croydon for settlement - they could have handled it.

After about 6 weeks or so with no response, *THEN* you can turn your hubby loose on his MP...

I'll be in Croydon next Tuesday doing two spousals if you want to meet up and give it another whack in person.  Otherwise, stay on it!

Apparently, the people on the phone were wrong, I had no problem with it at all. The people I saw there recognized that stamp immediately for a temporary working visa, and were quite nice about it. Problem solved, wish I'd asked here last year!!

THANKS!!!!!!!!

Not to be snarky - but you DID ask here.  And you were told (yes, by me) you didn't need to return to the US for the Fiancee' Visa if your Student visa was for longer than 6 months.  And you never responded to the advice you were given.
