I-864A question

As I went over our documents for the 100th time in preparation while we wait for the interview,  I noticed on the I-864A ,that my mom filled out that my dad (the sponsor) didn't sign it (on page 3).  ARGH! I can't believe I didn't just notice that until now.

I know I've read mixed things about the 864A form.  Is it necessary if my dad is the sponsor and my mom has had no income (since 2005) on joint tax returns?

I'm trying desperately to get my parents on the phone today and of course they are not where to be found.  Worst case, I could have the documents signed again and overnighted.  We just had the medical on Monday so I'm sure the interview will be a few weeks away now.

The I-864a isn't necessary unless your parents have a joint income that needs to be considered. You need an I-864 and your dad needs one if he is co-sponsoring, that is all.

That's what I had thought.  I could copy my dad's W2's and that would show that his income is the only one on the tax return. 

Just spoke to UPS and it will be nearly $60 to send the signed document express.  Don't think I will do it.  Hate to spend anymore money than I need to.

Thanks for the quick reply.  My husband and I can sleep a little easier.  It's so stressful making sure all the paperwork is in order.

My mother is my husbands co-sponsor. She & my dad file joint returns (always have) however, her income alone meets the level for sponsorship so an I-864A for my father was not necessary.

There is a wonderful Q&A from the US Embassy in London regarding the I-864 & the I-864A this is where the official answer is:

Household Member(s): Each household member(s) whose income and/or assets are to be considered is required to complete a separate I-864A, pages 1, 2, & 3 and staple them together in the correct order. Sponsor/joint sponsor should complete Part 2 and Part 5.

So basically, if there are no sources of income/assets to consider (not needed or there are no assets or income) then there is no I-864A needed.
