I am watching it and reading the book at the same time! Its very good...however, I was enjoying it alot and my husband said to me that he was surprised that I am enjoying something so schmaltzy, and once he said that, I realised how schmaltzy it is and I am sort of not enjoying it as much! lol! Stupid husband!

I love it, caught it from the first episode.

My husband enjoys it as well.

What is "schmaltzy"?  Cheesy?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmaltz#Derived_meanings

Quote
In American English, schmaltz (adj. schmaltzy) has also an informal meaning of excessively sentimental or florid music or art or maudlin sentimentality. Its earliest usage in this sense dates to the mid 1930s.[5][6] In German "schmalzig" is also used in the same sense.

I find it very schmaltzy, but quality enough to overcome it.  There's good schmaltz and there's bad schmaltz.

I think schmaltzy is like melodramatic, not cheesy as such, but just over the top with its emotions and characters. I am enjoyi8ng it though!

I love this show but IMO not schmaltzy, I think it's a well acted period piece.

I'm watching!  DH & I usually watch TV together, but he always gets up & leaves the room & finds something else to do when this is on...lol!

The first episode put me off a little when the nurses were saying how 'heroic' the women were for having so very many children - I found that a bit cringeworthy, personally...

And that lead character whining about her lost love who she can't have, instead of letting it go & that fellow who is pursuing her is so very nice - I'm getting tired of hearing her moan about that & I'd kind of like to slap some sense into her.

But apart from those things, I've liked it!  :)

That's how the light gets in...

I'm hoping for some big twist! My heart broke though when she refused him, but I know where she is coming from!

So now that it is over, will it not be on for a whole year? I've noticed that a lot with shows here. It drives me crazy!  I've been waiting for "Miranda" to come back for 14 months!  ???  Why do they only do 6 episodes on average?
