useful links for settling in UK???
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:36:40 AM »
Just moved to London on spouse visa,  are there any good links to help get m started?
I know I can use my american drivrs license a year.
What about registering where I live?
Getting a NHC number?
What do I need prior to applying for a job?
Any tips and links would help.

Thanks

You dont need to register where you live, but you may want to put your name on the council tax.

I assume by NHC you actually mean a national insurance number.  Here is all the info here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/BeginnersGuideToTax/NationalInsurance/IntroductiontoNationalInsurance/DG_190048

It would be best for you to have your NI number before applying for a job, but isnt mandatory.  Other than that, you dont need anything.  Just your visa/passport and a CV obviously.
