I bought a huge bag of frozen broad beans and I was all excited.  Then I tasted them and there is some sort of after taste to me.

My husband thinks I am insane, but I love almost every other veggie.

Did you shell them? The frozen ones have the skin left on and it does taste a bit funny They are much nicer shelled.

Have you had habas fritas? Mmmm... a little bag of heaven!  ;D

Yes!  We have a little deli here in our little town that sells them - I think both the ready salted ones, and some different flavored ones too.  They are delish! :D

Most people don't like the skins left on, but I do! ;D

However, I have a recipe for a lovely broad bean, pea and mint dip and for that you really do have to get the skins off.

I miss the really salty lima beans with ham that you get in cans. I couldn't ever find the ones I wanted on the east coast, either, though. It's all just fond memories from California...

I know this topic is long-dead, but I thought I'd give it a poke to just make sure.  My mom is from the South and I have FINALLY gotten my hands on my grandma's secret Brunswick Stew recipe. Which...requires lima beans.  Good thing she decided to cough that one up after I had already moved.

Has anyone found limas (frozen, canned, whatever)?  May substitute black-eyed peas or broad beans or something, but just wanted to make sure first!

I have never actually looked for lima beans since I have been here, but now I suddenly want them now that I know they are not really available!  ;)
