The Hunger Games

I've been seeing the trailers for the above movie which is coming out this month. The movie looks interesting but I prefer to read books first. So, I read them all this weekend (they're young adult, easy to read) and I loved the story. Can't wait to see the film.

OMG OMG OMG! I am so excited and my only regret is that I haven't been able to get my husband to read them.

I have gotten three people at work to and three other people's kids though.

It looks very similar to Battle Royale.

That's a common misconception.   

But I did like Battle Royale.

That's what everyone says, it's not actually true though. Battle Royale major themes are around a certain "fear" of young people and rising youth violence that was common in Japanese society particularly, there is a coming of age aspect in both novels but Battle Royal focuses mainly on the adolescent experience whilst the Hunger games takes the themes of fascism and totalitarian control of an entire society further and really explores the amoral violence that sets in when as an innocent child is conditioned to be a killer by adults and us ultimately about the grief, loss and general horrors of war. 

I love both books a lot

I read it when I was younger and I'm not sure it really clicked with me then.  I may have to re-visit it and pick up HG on the way.

I read the first book and enjoyed it, but am having a hard time getting into the second book. I still want to see the movie though.

Push on, it's just as good as the first. The third is great too, especially as it all comes to full closure.

I really liked the 3rd one, but of all my friends it seems like I am the only one. Everyone else wanted a more, how shall one say, hollywood ending?

I kept thinking they'd put her in the arena for a 3rd time which I thought would have been really boring. She did a good job with the second arena but it easily could have been repetitive. Really, there is so much killing you can read about, right?

My friend wanted to go all kick ass, but to me I thought this was more real life.  You don't always get to do what you want.  Sometimes the greater good has to be considered.

Because even though it's focused on one character, it's also about the revolution of a country. The writer had to make it good for all
