US tax questions
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:57:24 AM »
I worked part time for a little over a month and was paid by the state. (Home health care)
I brought home less than 1,500.

3 questions:
Am I under the bracket required to file a tax return and if not, can I fill out the form using the paystubs as I did not receive the w2 form.
I read last year that the deadline for overseas filing was June 25 th(?).  Is this the norm?

Thank you in advance

Last year, I worked for a little over a month in the state of Michigan (while working through the spousal visa application)
I now live in the UK.
No other income or investments last year.

And thank you for responding.

This will help you decide whether you should file federal taxes

I don't know about Michigan.

I went to that questionnaire, and am a little confused. As Americans married to British citizens, do we file "single" or "married filing separately"? Do our spouses "count" since they are not American taxpayers?
British Citizenship approval: May 2016
Ceremony: July 2016

Well, she was an American girl, raised on promises.
She couldn't help thinking that there was a little more to life, somewhere else.
After all it was a great big world, with lots of places to run to.
And if she had to die trying she had one little promise she was gonna keep.

If you are married you can file as married filing jointly or married filing separately. Which you choose to do will depend on your circumstances, but filing jointly will lead to some complications.
