According to the UKBA, no visa needed?
« on: February 07, 2012, 04:44:11 AM »
I plan on visiting for a few months with my fiance the end of this year, and upon taking the UKBAs "Do I need a visa?" questionnaire, it told me a possport would suffice.

My question:
Do you think it wise I go along with this? Or obtain the visitor's visa?

Why do you think you need a visitor visa?

You'll need your passport to enter and will "apply" for a visa upon entry.  There's nothing in the immigration rules saying you can't visit your fiance and as long as you can show sufficient ties to the US (ie you have a job, rent somewhere, show proof) you'l be fine.

Some people apply for a visitor visa before they leave just to be certain, if you can show a return ticket, and ties to the US and it's a short visit then it's probably not worth the efford.

Thanks so much for your help! Passport, return ticket, and ties to the US! Got it! ^_^

You know, I'm glad you asked this question! I'm going to London to visit my fiance this summer, a couple of weeks before the wedding (his brother is getting married and we have Springsteen and Olympics tickets that we had already bought before we got engaged!) I was sort of stressing about having to say I'm visiting my fiance. I figured I'd bring my wedding plans and payment receipts for the shindig to show that I definitely plan on coming back to get married! (I won't have any other ties at that point since school will be done and I'm living with my parents for now...)
