I have studied abroad at the university of leicester for a year, and in recent times i am second guessing my career path and id like to look into language studies and I really admired the program at leicester, but i know that they make their students go abroad in the 3rd year, whereas most other degrees give the option - this degree does not give much of an option not to go, I was wondering other than leicester what other schools might be good, i.e. manchester? etc. also, I know that when uk students go abroad it is under the erasmus scheme and they don't have to pay, but would i have to pay being an international student or because im doing it through a uk university would i be elgible to do my year abroad under the erasmus scheme like other stduents?

What languages do you want to do?

Try http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/table/2012/may/22/university-guide-modern-languages-linguistics

to start, but the language you want to do will be important. Are you talking undergrad or postgrad?

I am looking to study french and spanish, if the course allows for 2 languages. and as an undergrad. I realized what I have been studying is not what I want to persue, so I've made the decision to get an undergraduate degree, and figured If I am starting over I'd like to do it abroad.

If my experience is anything to go by, international students don't get anything free. Especially not a year abroad.

Sloth, didn't you say you've got a year left at your college?

For French and Spanish, try:
Aberystwyth Uni:
http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/undergrad/courses/eu-langs/french/

University of Chester:
http://www.chester.ac.uk/undergraduate/french-combined

University of Coventry:
http://wwwm.coventry.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/ug2013/pages/French_and_Spanish_BA_Hons_degree.aspx

University of Salford:
http://www.salford.ac.uk/courses/modern-languages-frenchspanish

University of York:
http://www.york.ac.uk/language/undergraduate/courses/two-languages/

Lancaster University:
http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/eurolang/ug/schemes/two_language_combined_major.htm

University of Leeds:
http://www.leeds.ac.uk/arts/coursefinder/19834/BA_French_and_Spanish?categoryID=20053

University of East Anglia BA Translation and Interpreting with double honours Language Spanish and French::
http://www.uea.ac.uk/lcs/courses/ba-translation-and-interpreting

Aston University (Birmingham) BSc Translation Studies - French and Spanish:
http://www1.aston.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/school/languages-social-sciences/languages-translation/bsc-translation-studies-french-and-spanish/

Cost-wise for living, I'd avoid London and the Southeast.

If you want to go on to to Translation at postgrad level, I would consider studying in either East Anglia, Birmingham or Leeds, as these cities have unis that have the French and Spanish undergrad options with masters Translation options at unis in their cities to reduce moving costs. Or doing one of the bachelor degrees that combine all three.

The following unis have both the Undergrad and Postgrad you are looking for:

University of East Anglia, as it has the MA Applied Translation Studies:
http://www.uea.ac.uk/lcs/courses/ma-applied-translation-studies
alongside
BA Translation and Interpreting with double honours Language Spanish and French:
http://www.uea.ac.uk/lcs/courses/ba-translation-and-interpreting

Or Aston for the same reason - actually may be cheaper to live in the for UEA -
Aston University (Birmingham) BSc Translation Studies - French and Spanish:
http://www1.aston.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/school/languages-social-sciences/languages-translation/bsc-translation-studies-french-and-spanish/
MA in Translation Studies:
http://www1.aston.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/taught-programmes/school/languages-social-sciences/translation-studies/

University of Leeds:
http://www.leeds.ac.uk/arts/coursefinder/19834/BA_French_and_Spanish?categoryID=20053
University of Leeds MA Applied Translation Studies:
http://www.leeds.ac.uk/cts/en/courses/applied_translation_studies.htm

Of these three, Leeds ranks the best and is a relatively affordable northern city:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/higher-education-network/2012/jun/29/top-uk-universities-for-modern-languages-2012-qs-world-university-rankings?newsfeed=true

ETA: But in these rankings (provided earlier):
http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/table/2012/may/22/university-guide-modern-languages-linguistics

Rank them as
1. Aston
2. UEA
3. Leeds

/end ETA
