Bank Statements
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:30:45 PM »
Quick question if I may....

As the sponser for my wifes Spousal Visa I need to provide my bank statements. Do these need to be certified by the bank, or will online statement printouts suffice?

Just trying to ascertain if I need to pop into Halifax and get them to sign them or not.

Thanks

They need to be stamped and signed by the bank. Also, just a heads up, Halifax may be different, but when we took self-printed statements into Barclays they still had to print their own.  So you may want to call and see if its worth your effort/the paper to print the statements yourself?

I think I read on the UKBA website the other day that the bank either needs to stamp every page of each statement or they need to write a letter confirming they are genuine.

From the Spousal visa maintenance page (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/partners-families/citizens-settled/spouse-cp/documents/maintenance/):

Quote
Personal bank or building society statements

Every personal bank or building society statement should clearly show:

your name or your sponsor's name
    the account number
    the date of the statement
the financial institution's name and logo
    transactions covering the recent period
that there are enough funds present in the account to support a dependent partner and any dependent children

If you want to send electronic bank statements from an online account, these must contain all of the details listed above. You will also need to send a supporting letter from your bank, on headed paper, confirming that the statements are genuine. Alternatively, electronic bank statements with the official stamp of the bank that issued the statements will be accepted. The stamp must appear on every page of the statement.

We will not accept statements that simply show the balance in the account on a particular day, as these documents do not show that there are consistent funds to meet the maintenance requirement.

If you have the time to wait, you can "order" bank statements from date x - x from your bank and they'll likely mail them out to you as originals (usually takes 5-10 working days)

Hmm...this was not the case with my bank.  I asked them to send statements that couldnt be printed online and they just sent generic print outs, nothing like original statements.  Sounds like this varies by bank or even branch.

When my Fiance went into Halifax and NatWest in February to have them stamp and sign his statements, both banks told him that they weren't allowed to do it. It took him going in a third time to each branch and being firm and insistent about it until he finally got someone to do it. So, be prepared for that.  ::)
