A 20" Carry-On Upright rolling suitcase, (Dimensions are 13" *Length* x 7"*Width* x 20" Height.)
I am also taking a small boarding tote.
Lufthansa says I can bring the tote but the max size for hand luggage is listed as
55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm...It doesn't say which one is Length, which one is Width, and which one is Height...It's really confusing me. (the centimeters are confusing me as well)
I hope someone has had experience with this before and can help me out. Is my luggage the right size? Is it small enough to bring on the flight?
55cm x 40cm x 20cm is approximately = 21.65in x 15.75in x 7.87in.
The reason they don't specify which is length, width, and height is because those things all vary depending on your perspective.. For example, you can lay a box on its short side or long side, and the "length" or "width" will vary accordingly...in other words, it depends how you look at it.
Therefore, you can also shove your carry-on bag into the overhead compartment any which way it will fit (whether it's with the short or long side laying flat.) From the traditional perspective of a rolling carry-on bag, the "height" would normally get shoved into the overhead compartment sideways (ie: the longest bit (20'') which is normally height in the traditional perspective, is actually on the bottom, which in this case now would be the "length" of the bag, since it will only be 7'' high, and 13'' deep)
In other words, your bag should be fine. Hope this helps.
