In 23 days I'll become a step-mum of 2 boys
« on: April 27, 2012, 05:17:37 AM »
I have to admit, now that it is here I am really excited and getting really scared! Not that I'll not go through with all this. But I'm 43 and have never had to be responsible for kids! I am thrilled to step into this new role in my life. Just nervous!

If anyone wants to chat step parenting, let me know.

Meg

Just to say good-luck!  Being a step-parent can be tricky and require great diplomacy but is also incredibly rewarding.  Having my step-daughters tell me they loved me were two of the most memorable moments of my life.

I've known both since they were tiny and love them both to bits.  All the children (my own and my step-children) regard each other as family and it's just great.

I've just spent the last weekend going to see a student show that one of them was in and being part of the extended family supporting her was just fabulous (as was the show).   I sat next to her Mum and we were both so proud.

Welcome to the club!  I've been a step mom to a now 10 year old boy for 2 years and it had its challenges at first but has definitely gotten easier over time.  Although I've known him since he was 5 it was a pretty big transition for us all when I moved over.  We recently welcomed a little baby girl to the family and he's such a good big brother!  I think it's brought us all even closer.

How old are your new "bonus" kids?  I'm happy to chat about step parenting anytime, with its unique trials and rewards!  Best of luck.  x

The oldest is 14 and will be 15 in June. It will be an interesting time with him because he's a friendly and smart kid and also very shy. He's having some growth issues (he has the bone age of a 12.5 year old) and is being teased terribly by the kids in his school. Fiancee and his ex are working on it and even with insurance its amazing how slowly the medical establishment moves. Especially since they have a small window of time to get the growth thing going. I hope they can get something to work.

The younger one is very 8, and will be 9 in Sept. A very outgoing and energetic boy who knows exactly how far to push things with people. He's a busy one for sure.

Tally, I will chat I am sure. I know the boys both like me (from the Ex to my fiancee) and I do enjoy them. Now to see how we all adapt. :)

Count me in the convo! I recently became step mum to a gorgeous, talented, almost 15 year old young lady. But then again she is 15, plus super introverted and shy (i'm extroverted and aggressive). I love her dearly. But I look forward to using my interpersonal training to better relate to such a different personality. Plus, her relationship with her mother is not perfect. So I feel there are roles for me to fill in her life.

Oh...and I have no kids of my own - so flying solo and looking for wing men/women ;)

My mom and I were talking about mother's day that is coming up, since me, my fiancee and his mum and my sister (who is a mom) will all be together for wedding week which starts with mother's day. I was talking about getting appropriate cards etc and mom said "We'll have to get you one too!" Made me all teary just thinking about it. :)
