Glasgow "Get Together"/ Whisky Night?
« on: May 17, 2012, 09:53:15 AM »
Would any forum users in the Glasgow area (or from anywhere else for that matter!!) be interested in an informal get-together some time in June?

I was thinking perhaps The Pot Still on Hope St would be a good venue. A great bar with probably the best selection of single malt scotch in town (if you're into that sort of thing). Also, there's no blaring music, so people would have the chance to chat and get to know one another.

If you think this is something that may interest you, just post a reply to this thread. Would a weeknight or a weekend evening be preferable?

Glenn

Hi,

I'd love to get together with people, but I don't think I'll be on the mainland again until September. : /

Still, if you're still interested then, keep an eye open.  Last time my husband & I were through Glasgow, I posted about a potential meet-up, but didn't get any takers.

Maybe some other time, but for me... June is out.
(Going to the US on the 18th June, and between now and then, need to try to save every penny I can get!)

I just threw in June as an initial suggestion. Later in the summer would be OK. I guess it would give any potential attendees a bit more time to organise!

Anytime in the last 2 weeks of July would work for me, and weeknights are preferable to weekends.

I'd be interested in "the next time." I'll be moving up to Glasgow at the end of the summer with my husband and son and won't know anyone there. So a meet-up would be great!

From the replies posted so far, it looks like there may be some interest in getting this together.

How about we say Thursday, 26th July from 7pm at The Pot Still on Hope Street (between West Regent St and West George St) as a provisional date/time/place?

If all goes well, and we all emerge without coming to blows ( ;D) maybe we could arrange a second gathering.

Glenn

Pretty sure that date would work for me.  My boyfriend will be away to the Czech Republic at the time, so I won't have to work my schedule around his.

How many hand-pumps do they have, Glenn?
(assuming they still do real ale?  Not been in for over 10 years!)

Tracey,

They usually have 2 or 3 guest ales which they change on a weekly basis. They also have a decent selection of continental bottled beers (ales, lagers, weissbiers). Always something fresh to try! The kicker though is the 300+ Single Malt Whiskies.

Nah, I'm not really interested in whisky.  I mean, I like it, and I'll drink it if it's put in front of me, but it's not my 'thing'.
Hopefully there's some good beer on the day (I'm quite picky)... but good to know they've got an interesting fridge, just in case!

I think I got burned out in my previous marriage... 10 years of holidays on Islay twice a year.  Yeah, probably sounds like heaven to you, but...  :-\\\\
