So, anyone been to Boston?
« on: April 29, 2012, 04:55:24 AM »
Well, my trip is now just basically two days away. (omgomgomomgomgomg) I seriously thought I would never visit there again, but it's actually happening.. freak me out.. Ny>Boston/staying one night hotel>London, my family, my grandma and brother are coming with me to Boston (we're staying over night in a hotel... turns out you can't stay alone in a hotel if you're not over 21, and I'm 20. I swear we have the oldest children in the states. Sigh)

I digress! We'll be leaving NY at 3:30ish and be getting to Boston around 4:30 in the afternoon I believe so we'll have some time to do some tourist-y things. For a few hours anyways, I'll be getting to sleep reeeeally early for my 8am flight to Heathrow. We'll be doing a duck tour and such, has anyone else been to Boston and if so what else is there to do there? Or what did you do when you were there? I won't be able to do very much sight-seeing, but I've never been there and I'd like to use the time there wisely.

With that short of time?  I'd walk the Freedom Trial and people watch in Faneuil Hall.

Also, I stayed in plenty of hotels under the age of 21.  It might be the hotel you picked, or the website you booked it through.

Yep id suggest with not much time.. walk the freedom trail too.. People watching in Faneuil Hall is fun.. walk around the Harbour.. The aquarium is there too. All nearish each other.. but the freedom trail is full of historic boston sites..and its a fairly easy walk and if you get a nice day its great.

I fourth the Freedom Trail. You could also get some pizza in the North End for supper or have a picnic-y supper on Boston Common (weather permitting). Boston is great on foot, so I would seriously recommend walking around (with a map, so if you get lost you can find your way) and see if there's anything that interests you.

It was the hotel I picked. But it was the same at another hotel near the Canadian boarder where I stayed with my boyfriend, good thing he's 25, so the age thing seems to be.. more of a wide spread thing, at least where I have been interested in looking for hotels. I had to stay at that particular one because it was the closest I could find to the airport. But oh well, turns it into a mini-family-holiday.

Freedom Trail it is! Thanks everyone! I'll ask my grandmother if she wants to go :D Luckily, I have an iPhone to lead the way when I'm there, mwhaha. My grandmother and brother are going to Salem the day I leave. I was so bummed, I've always wanted to visit there  :\\\'(

I think sometimes it depends on the state. I think that it applies to Connecticut but I definitely checked into a hotel in New York City at 18 with no issue (and Ohio at 19 but it was a really crappy interstate motel that didn't charge us tax because we paid in cash so honestly, that might not mean all that much).

I'll also tell you the Freedom Trail, North End and/or Paul Revere's House in the NE.  Also, just a simple walk around Boston.  It's such a small city and easily walkable. Depending on what kind of day it is, perhaps even a stroll through the Boston Commons or Public Gardens (Public Gardens are prettier as it dates back to the Victorian times with the Swan Boats and such).

Enjoy Boston!  It's certainly my favorite city in the US, but I'm a bit biased.   ;D

Yep, the Freedom Trail. Or you could walk along the waterfront but it's probably too breezy to do that!

Great thread with great suggestions!

I'm happy for it to be here in Chit Chat (I love travel), but I think the Travel section is a little bit better fit, so I'm sending it there.  (no big deal either/either though)  :)

Hope I get to Boston someday!

I hope you do, too!  It's worth at least one visit in life, I think.   ;)
