Jet lag flying change of toddlers routine

Hi considering flying with our 18 month old to Detroit sometime this year
I am worried about the five hour time difference in relation to
Her routine. She wakes at about 6 am and is in bed at about
1930.  I don't know how she will adjust if we just
Stayed for a week or 10 days. Anyone else had this experience ?

Not much you can do other than try to schedule the flight when she'll be asleep.  She'll get the hang of it eventually.  They adjust really quickly.  The hard part is going back!

Yep.  We've done 5 hours to Boston a few times and our little guy adapted better than expected.  He'd righted himself on time by day 2.  We were stunned! The hard part was definitely coming home -- that took some time to undo.  Seems to be a near universal experience, too.  Everyone I know complains about the coming home bit.  And of course, we're tired then, too, but the days of just vegging out and doing nothing to recuperate are long over!  :-\\\\

I just go with how my kids are feeling, on the way over they stay up until their normal time, so I keep them up until 8 pm New York time. On the way back its a bit more difficult, but there isn't really anything you can do. I think it takes a week to ten days to get back to a normal sleeping schedule, but there isn't anything you can do! So go with the flow!

I agree that you sort of have to go with the flow.  On the way over I will try and get mine to take a nap on the plane and then let them stay up till a normal bedtime.  The first night is probably the worst but it does get better after about 2 days.  On the way back mine do a pretty good job sleeping most of the way then take a noon time nap then we try for a normal bedtime.  The next couple days we try and not let them sleep in and go out and about more so they might only get a catnap in the car then a normal bedtime.  Still takes about 4 days to get them close to normal.

Last time we went home kids went to bed at 7or so and were up, wide awake and ready to go at 2am, next day it was 5 thank goodness ;)
