Anyone in/near Leicester?

Greetings all,

It's nice to find this site. I wish I had found it before arriving! I've been in Leicester for three weeks now. I was previously in Boston but am originally from Michigan. I just got a bank account today, so I'm happy - it was, as I'm sure many of you know, a frustrating process. Anyway, I'd be happy to know of any real or virtual gathering places for expats. London and Nottingham are not that hard for me to get to. I'll be teaching music technology at De Montfort Univ.

i've heard that one can get cheap flights out of coventry. i don't have a car, so i'm not so sure how soon i'd get to coventry otherwise. if you ever swing into leicester, let me know!

I will be moving to Leicester mid October (assuming I get my visa oh man the wait is unbearable).  We will live in glen parva (up by fosgate park).  Maybe we can get together sometime.  Would be interesting chat with someone else from the midwest.

Wecome to the site Ron!  Sorry, not living near Leic, but in Wisconsin - my mom is from Leic, tho, and I have family living there, so it's always interesting for me to see the name pop up in the forum! 

I hope to be relocating there in the next year or so to attend uni.

I'm getting married will arrive in the UK on 4/10 (October tenth) and be married on 11/12 (December Eleventh)

I'm originally from NY, but I spent several years living in Minnesota (Go Vikings!).  I've been in Coventry for almost a year now.  I found the best way to make some friends here is to go down to your local on Karaoke night, have several pints, and sing your favorite song - that's what did the trick for me!
