Hi all, new on here.

I am in the process of completing backdated US tax returns, as I was not aware these needed to be completed while I am paying UK tax – I moved to the UK when I was 16 and have been clueless about these things.

To anyone who’s in the know, I would very much appreciate some help with the following:

1. If I wish to apply for the ITIN for my husband, using the W7 form, should I complete this for the first year it becomes relevant (i.e. 2009) or for the current year (2012)?

2. If completing the W7 form for 2009, should I list the home address as per 2009, or as per our current address details?

3. I just last month changed my name on my Social Security card.  Should I list my name on backdated tax returns as my maiden name, as this is how the Social Security number was registered at those dates?  Or should I list my name as it currently appears on the Social Security register, i.e. my married name?

4. It appears I am eligible for the Additional Child Tax Credit, and I’m going to f1116, etc. route for this.  The trouble is, I’m unsure how to receive such payments as the US and UK bank clearing systems are different and my UK bank account has no routing code.  I do not have a US bank account, as I moved to the UK as a teenager.  What does one do in such a situation?

I have read something about a Direct Deposit system, and I can see that the UK is eligible.  Would this be a system that allows me to receive the payments in my UK bank account?  In which case:

1. How would I apply for this?
2. What bank details would I list on the form 1040?
3. Or...does this only apply to Social Security benefits, which I am not receiving?

One final question is, once I have completed these tax returns correctly, do I have to book an appointment with the Embassy to present them and have my husband's passport certified?

I apologise for the onslaught of questions there.  I attempted to telephone the Embassy but had difficulty getting through.  Thank you to anyone who can help me with this!
