University of Sheffield Loan question

Hello!

Well, I have been given an unconditional offer to study at the University of Sheffield. Which means, if all goes well, I will be going there sometime in September.

My question is: Specifically for the University of Sheffield, how do loan letters work? I know I am supposed to be receiving mine soon but I don't know how it will come. Is it USPS or UPS? Also, would they have notified me of any problems with my application before hand? Is there any way my request would have been denied and they chose not to tell me until I receive the letter?

I know this is a pretty specific question but I would appreciate your help.

If you're using American loans to fund your studies, they go directly to your universrity and then you will be emailed to come sign for them. Normally they get disbursed in thirds throughout the year and they take out 1/3 of your tuition fees and give you the remaining for living.

You are the one who has to apply for the loans. The school doesn't do it for you. So you would be the first to know if you've been approved or not. The school just has to finalise the approval but they'd tell you if they've made an amendment to how much you can receive or anything like that.

I applied for it exactly how they told me to. The only reason I'm worried is because they didn't sent any confirmation e-mail or anything! All it says on the website is that they will send a letter July 9th. I just wanted to know if, in the case they deny my request, I would be notified before this date to make the proper arrangements.

Also, what about the accommodation fees? Are these also taken out when the University receives the funds?

It sounds like you've been approved.

Accommodation has nothing to do with the university so no they will not take any accommodation fees off you. You need to make your own arrangements even if you're staying in halls. There's paperwork to fill out and you need to check how they will charge you. At my university they ask you to pay for the entire year all in one go (as an international student) which I wasn't able to do so had to search for private accomm.

Well I received my loan letter today both by e-mail and post! Now all I have to do is apply for my student visa which I will be doing this Friday

I e-mailed the accommodation office regarding the disbursement date and the date when their fees are due and this is what she e-mailed back:


The University adjusts the payment dates for tuition and accommodation where a student is a recipient of a US Loan.

You will need to set up a payment method when you accept your accommodation and our standard payment plan is 3 instalments. However, as US loans are paid in two instalments we would usually split the payment to 50% due with disbursement 1 in October 2012 and 50% due with disbursement 2 in February 2013. The Tuition fees are treated in the same way.

We would then pay any excess to you or make arrangements for you to pay the balance if your loan does not cover the full cost.

I am sharing this information for those who are in a situation similar to mine in hopes that it will help ease the nerves
