Hi guys!!

Hope it's ok I joined this forum as I am actually british!

I spent four months in pa and I just felt so at home there and made some amazing friends and want to return.

But once I returned home I found I really miss my american friendships, although we stay in contact it isn't quite the same. My british friends are way too fed up of hearing all about how much better I found it over there... I may have no friends left soon!

I would love to see if any Americans from the Shropshire/ West Midlands area wanted to chat and possibly meet.

I am quite new to this area so don't know many people and thought this would be a nice place to start.

So hi :)

Oh I'm called amber and im 23 and live in the middle of sheopshire

Hi Amber!

Absolutely no problem joining.  We have plenty of Brits on here so welcome!

Where in Pennsylvania were you based?  Re-adjusting to home can be so difficult, especially after having a fantastic study aboard experience.  I know that I really struggled when I got back from England in 2010.  All you want to do is talk about this incredible experience that you have just had.

Did you have any British friends who studied abroad with you?  Perhaps you can arrange a meet up with them.  I remember going to the pre-study abroad meetings where we were warned not to spend all of our time with Americans during our time away so that we could meet British people.  While I agree that you need to meet the 'locals', I also think that it is really important to find those people who are having the same experience as you.  It was a lifesaver when we returned to the US because we could meet up and talk about our time away without any guilt.  Don't be afraid to discuss your time abroad with your friends but remember that they may be slightly jealous or feel left out because they cannot relate with your current feelings.

Relish in your experience, look at those pictures, Skype those international friends!  Keep in contact with people.  You will always look back at this time with fondness but don't let it jade your life in England.  Try not to compare everything you do with what you did in the US.  Indulge in those comfort foods that you missed while you were abroad.  Meanwhile, is there an American Candy Shop or anything near you where you can fulfill those cravings for US food?  I promise that your life will get back to normal eventually.  So glad that you had a good experience.

Good luck with everything and welcome to the forum!
