A late intro and a huge thanks you!
« on: September 25, 2004, 04:44:15 PM »
I just wanted to say a big Thank You to those who advised me out of the kindness of their heart (I mean, we sure are not paid for this are we?  ;D ) when I was struggling with my visa issues this summer. I have returned with my fiance visa (btw, the woman at the consulate in LA that met with me really didn't want to give me the visa because my husband is a mature student and only works part time during term. I should send her a thank you card, don't you think?), got married last week at the pretty little Ealing Borough Registry and now have my FLR(M) and a job interview tomorrow.

The hard part is over, and again, thanks for all your help. And I am glad to pass on my recently gained knowledge to all who need it!

Now if only to figure out how to vote (sorted), file taxes, get an NI Number, UK driver's license, buy a flat, change names and all the other stuff.

Cheers!

(and hooray for Newcastle United up 1-0 over West Brom! Yippee!)

Welcome again and glad you got your visa!  We're not actually allowed to vote until we become citizens.  Nor do we have to file taxes.  The Inland Revenue usually notify you if you need to file a tax return, but it's not commonplace like in the US.

Best of luck on your job interview!

Maybe she means sorting absentee ballots and learning how to file US taxes based on a UK income?

Congrats on getting the visa, delara!

lola's got it. Absentee ballot for the states. I don't know nearly enough about the government here (and do I really want to know when I have the one at home to deal with?) so I am not worried about voting here.

Yet.
