Apples that aren't overlarge and tasteless.
Covent Garden carrot soup.
Scones.
Sitting in The Bowery coffee shop and seeing familiar faces walk by.
Reasonable public transport.
The Men of Dust who take the trash away.

I really wanted to walk to a pub today, but the closest requires a drive. There are so many fantastic beers here now, some crackin' local LA brews, but what I really want is a pint of ale.

And this is the time of year that I miss Young's Winter Warmer to pieces.

Just reading this thread has me counting the days to our visit next April, which should be a 4 - 5 month stay (includes a month in Ireland and a month in Europe).

Last year we rented a house in N Yorks for 6 months and didn't need a car.  Everything was in easy walking distance and loads of buses to get to the larger towns around.

I'd also add drying clothes on a line in the garden to the other things listed here.

The cold weather the North of England is having today, the visit to the pub before a huge Sunday roast, and a long walk afterwards to work it off - all the things my husband will be doing as he's there on a visit, just a teeny bit jealous!

Apples that aren't overlarge and tasteless.

We get bags of Honey Crisp apples that are a great, small size here in Maryland. Have a look for them!

It was 4 years in October that I returned to the US. My life is so different now but I sure miss the UK and part of me thinks if given the chance, I'd return. I'm not sure I could leave my mother alone again though, and my older son gets a lot of intervention at school and I hear it's a good deal harder to sort out there.

That said, I REALLY miss the countryside views, M&S food hall, Channel 4, pubs, The Guardian in print, Country Living (the US version sucks), British TV, cheese and bacon and sausages, walking in town and the paths, and my former in-laws seeing my kids.

Sorry, feeling a bit homesick today. :P
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Heated towel rails. Oh my I didn't realize how much I missed them until I checked into my hotel today and used a warm fluffy towel. Heaven!

Being able to say "Happy Christmas" to people without being deemed 'politically incorrect'.

Rather specific, but today I really miss the Lord Palmerston pub on Dartmouth Park Hill in NW5.

And I've sat in a lot of traffic lately that yet again makes me miss riding my bike to work. I know London is still working on being cyclist friendly, but it's a hell of a lot more friendly than LA!

Sorry for being so late on this, but I totally agree with you. I pretty much decided, screw it, I was going to say it.  :P

I always hear about this, but I've never actually encountered it myself. I always say "Merry Christmas" and never "Happy Holidays" and no one has ever batted an eyelash. If someone came up to me and said "Happy Kwanzaa" or "Happy Hanukkah," I'd happily say it back to them.

Bottled beers in those big 440ml bottles.

But most beers are in 500ml bottles, so I'd call a 440ml bottle 'small' (or a rip-off!  Never actually seen one, though. ). :)
