FLR and ignorance!
« on: September 24, 2004, 10:08:20 AM »
Ok -- I've been trying to get a new job -- don't like working with my PIG of a boss!!!

I called one place to follow up on an interview and the guy ACTUALLY told me that I should check that I'm LEGAL to work in this country with "that sticker in your passport."  I explained to him that everything was legal for me to work her AND to remain here  i n d e f i n i t e l y.
His response - "I'm not so sure - you might want to see your solicitor about that."  I thanked him and hung up!

Ok - not focusing on the BEAUTIFUL offices - and how nice everybody seemed - and how close it is to my house.....   >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

What!!!  Oh brother!  That is BS!!!  Does this guy know how to do his job!  Sorry, I am still venting about my problems too!  But really does anyone know anything at their jobs?  I don't think you want to work for a place like that if that is the attitude of their interviewers!

No excuses for the this person, but recently they have sent out a handbook to many employers with pictures of different visas in an effort to cut down on illegal employment.  This may have, in part, sparked his statement.

You might want to see your solicitor about that?!?!?!

What a plonker.

 ::)

Something better will come along - it really will!  Would you want to work for/with such an idiot anyway?  Think of all the other stuff he probably knows nothing about but thinks he does!

If you have indefinite leave you probably got a letter when you got your stamp, right?  That letter will spell it out that you are legal to work, for any future idiots who don't know what they're doing.

Why is it that every time any government does something that is supposed to crack down on illegalities, the people doing things the legal way are always the ones inconvenienced?  :P

I'm with Peedal...send him that letter you got from the Home Office, along with a note that he's a big idiot.  :)

You don't want to work for someone who can't admit he might not know absolutely everything there is to know about everything.  Trust me on this one.

Hang in there!  Something better will come along.  :)

Here's an online version of the stamps.  This is part of what was in the book:

Calmed down a bit -- unchained myself from my he££acious desk and went for a walk to Betty & Phil's (No Batman today!).

It's just soooooooooooooo freakin' frustrating!!!  I've got the Home Office Booklet thingy here -- tempted to photocopy it and post it to him.
And it was cool during the interview too!   :P

I just got a message on my mobile APOLOGIZING for the comment made during our phone conversation!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!

I xeroxed my letter AND the booklet and sent it to him along with a letter explaining how offended I was at his "off hand" comment about seeing a solicitor and implying that I was "illegal."  I also said I was glad I did receive the comment from him as it assisted me GREATLY in deciding WHERE and in what atmosphere I chose to be employed.

Thank you very freakin' much Mr. Plonker!!!   [smiley=bootyshake.gif]

You know, it wasn't just you he was casting aspersions on - it was anybody who has hired you since you've been LEGAL to work.

Again, what a plonker.  Best you're not working there - no matter how lovely the icing was, obviously the cake underneath is rotten!

It was good of him to at least text to aplogize,, but an actual phone call would have been nicer :) I am not a fan of texting,, partly because I can't figure out how to do the blasted thing,,LOL

Good for you for speaking out  :)  Hopefully next time, he will check HIS facts, before jumping to conclusions.
