entitled to NHS or not and why?
« on: June 25, 2012, 01:44:40 AM »
Hi I was hoping someone could clear this up for me, I seem to get conflicting info about this: I am UK citizen moving to UK. Am I entitled to the UK health care system or not? Based on this info from NHS, it seems I am even though I wouldnt technically be a resident for 3 years (or whatever the timeframe is).

As I understand it, if you are moving on a permanent basis (and must be prepared to prove this) then you are automatically entitled to NHS, just like a UK resident.
What do you think? (also, if you have different info, a link would be really helpful, thanks guys)

What makes you think you wouldn't be?

This. Except by "prove it", I had to tell the GP's receptionist (the only person so far who has cared) that I have moved here long-term. One receptionist told me I had to wait until I'd been here 6 months before I was eligible (when I was trying to register) but I went to another GP instead. As long as you're not here as a visitor (long-term or otherwise) and/or "medical tourist", you're fine.

I was asked at the hospital if I had lived in the UK for a year.

I'm not sure where that came from and I'm not sure what would have happened if I said no.

Everything that I have read states that you are entitled to it.  Like you I too am a UK citizen and will return sometime next year. I don't foresee any problems, but should they arise, I do not intend to take no for an answer
