I hate Delta, and United and now United have merged with continental I can't fly continental anymore as you can't tell what you'll end up on, stupid codeshare. Continental has the WORST food, but have plug sockets, win.

I find BA and American Airlines to be about the same, you get booze on BA though which is a plus.

Thanks for all the tips ladies. But unfortunately, I am no where near.. Boston or NYC, which is where a lot of people have suggested me going out of. I am more towards the Canadian border (literally two hour drive from Niagara Falls), so VERY nothern NY. Does anyone have any experience going out of Canada to London? My grandmother tells me (since I do not drive myself) I should be more considerate and instead of my mother's boyfriend (he usually drives me to the airport/or picks me up) driving 6 hours+ to Boston or Pennsylvania, that I should go out of Canada seeing as it is much closer than PA, MA, or even NYC. I'm just a little wary going out of a different country.. to go to a different country, if that makes sense.

I've flown out of Toronto to London via AirCanada and it was a good, (shorter than I'm used to if that makes sense...) flight. Just make sure you go to the correct side of the airport... x_x I had an extra long layover so I went browsing in Toronto for a few hours. I was exhausted from flying from DFW at six in the morning but my flight wasn't until the evening so I wasn't allowed to wait in the international terminal. I was directed to immigration and told them that I would be leaving for my evening flight. I was stamped into Canada... so I went into the city for a few hours. I returned to the airport extra early... glad I did because I had ended up in the continental side rather than the long haul-over seas terminals...

So as far as leaving the country to fly out of North America, unless Canada has some beef with you... you should be fine :P
09/29/09--Visa Approved!
10/05/09--Leave for the UK!!!
06/15/12--Back in the US indefinitely...

Woah, that was a fast reply! Thanks for the information. :) I guess I'm just overly worried about immigration from any country. My brother went to Canada (and I've been there a few times without any beef really) but, they had more trouble getting back into the US. I mean, we're citizens and they gave him (and his party) crap about coming back into the United States. I just really didn't want to have to deal with that, ya know.  ::) But I'll definitely be looking into going out of Canada now.

Flights to/from the US from Bristol airport are often much more expensive than flights to/from other cities. You could probably save yourself a couple of hundred dollars in airfare if you flew into London instead.

I've lived in Bristol all my life, but I never fly to the US from Bristol because it's too expensive. I normally just take a bus or a train to London and fly from there instead.

For example, flights from Chicago to Bristol this summer are about $1000, but flights from Chicago to London are $770 (and then you just have to pay about £40 for a train or bus fare to Bristol).

Just curious. You say you have lived in Bristol all your life but your Avare says you are in Linconshire???

Maybe I should have put 'most of my life'. I was born and raised in Bristol and I've lived here for about 24 of my 29 years.

I also lived in Exeter for university, the US twice as a student for a few months at a time, and I've been working in Lincoln for the last few months.

However, my permanent address was in Bristol from 1983 until 2011, my parents live here and currently I spend 2 days a week in Bristol, as I'm dividing my time between Exeter (work placement), Bristol and Lincoln.

You can usually find some good deals to the UK from Toronto, so that's definitely worth checking out
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I flew via Vancouver to Seattle last week. You don't go through  Canadian customs if you connect via the US, there's US customs in Vancouver weirdly.

There's US immigration in Dublin too (you still go through customs in the US). I think Shannon as well, but it's been awhile since I flew via Shannon.

I'm assuming you are someplace way upstate, like the Watertown area? Or maybe Plattsburg? If you can get to Syracuse or Rochester, maybe book a flight to JFK with Jet Blue or similar that would allow you to connect to a major international airline. It's tricky when you are not using a connection, but can be done.

Alternatively, using a Canadian airline just might be your best option.

This makes me feel much better, thanks for letting me know. Kind of odd though, but good for me since I usually have mini-panic attacks when dealing with any sort of immigration besides the U.S.

I'm actually from and living in Rochester. ;D I will definitely look into all these options everyone has given.

Couldn't pay me enough to fly into London...I'll stick with Bristol. The Immigration was a breeze last time, and it's only a 15min drive to My fiance's house...Plus makes it easier on his mum who always picks me up :)

Being in Rochester (a place I know pretty well because of my past working life) gives you a few options. A puddle jumper across the lake to Toronto, or a cheapie flight to JFK.

Always check out the 'regular' connecting flights first: ROC-JFK-UK or ROC-BOS-UK, then look at your other options. You are far better placed for flights than I assumed.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants is on Henrietta Road - The King and I; try it if you like Thai food!

Strangely enough, my best flights have been with United (Continental). I've flown Boston to Newark and Newark to Birmingham on their red-eye twice and both times I got a row entirely to myself, the entertainment selection was good and the staff were nice.

I've had an ok experience with American Airlines (BOS > LHR) and a crappy experience with British Airways (BOS > LHR). My entertainment was broken on the way to London and on the way back and the staff were rude. Saying that, I feel like if you're flying economy, it doesn't really matter who you fly with. It seems like the luck of the draw. United are notoriously crappy and yet that's been my best experience, but DH will only BA to and from America.

Try not to worry about immigration. It's out of your control. All you can do is be honest and polite.

October is coming soon! Yay! :)

I'm checkin' out some flights right now. I'm trying to find a non-stop flight, I've never actually had to make a stop on the route to England, or anywhere else for that matter. Count myself lucky for that. So, I'm looking for those first, if I can't find anything decent, it'll have to be Toronto to London. HA! Henrietta Road you say? I'll have to check it out, never knew there was one so close, what a small world.

I suppose you're right, just have to hope for the best! I will try to avoid United, with all the options everyone has given I don't think that'll be too much of an issue, :P All I can do is be prepared I guess and now with classes and such and going on to college eventually, I'll have that as a reason to return. Yippee! October! ;D
