Some Ideas?
« on: August 18, 2012, 04:04:14 AM »
Hi everyone. I have not been on the forum in a while now and I realize some of my questions are pretty similar to the questions I placed last time I came around but I'm hoping that's ok.

Back story, I am American married to a Swede. We are considering moving to England- it would be based on the EEA regulations.

My husband is a graphic designer, I have been a mother and home maker since my first child was born 19 years ago. I need to find a profession but that's a whole other post. My husband's company is not international and would not be able to keep him on if we move to England. He would have to find a new job.

My questions are:
Graphic design is a pretty hire-able field, right? How hard would it be for him to find work? Are there any areas we should consider above others when looking for a job for him?
Taking into account he does not have a job lined up we are pretty free to choose where we want to start considering- within reason of course, or is this an incorrect assumption?
We have 4 kids, ages 19 (he is most likely choosing to not come with us), 15, 11 and 9. We don't want to live in London itself, but at the same time don't want to be in a tiny little town where nothing is on offer. We also don't want to be more than a couple hours from London.
Crime, schools, cost of living and quality of life are all things to take into consideration for us.
Does anyone have any ideas on where we could begin looking?
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!
