Hi MalcolmB,

How exactly did you submit this to the credit agencies? Post... email? I tried doing this a couple of times but could not find a free way to do it, all sites wanted me to buy something to get access to customer services or phone numbers.

Cheers!

Hi,

For Experian we used customerservice@creditexpert.co.uk and they got it sorted quickly.   CallCredit (now Noddle) you can view online for free and I think you can request updates from the web interface.   Not sure about Equifax

If a credit agency is saying you need to sign up to their paid services to make a NoC, they are wrong.   They are legally required to post the NoC free of charge.

Regards
Malcolm

I'll throw in my experience so far...

I'm 26, lived here a year, planning on staying long-term. I am purposely not adding a note to my file as I would like to be eligible for instant and quick approvals which, to my understanding, won't be possible once there is a note on there.

I have a bank account without overdraft and a mobile phone contract. I was just approved for a Vanquis card for £500 and plan to  charge a small amount each month and pay it in full to build up credit. It'll likely go up to £1000 within about a half year from what I've read...

When my credit report is showing a bit higher score, I am going to open another bank account based on which bank I think will give me the best overdraft. (This really isn't necessary, but I am the type of person that likes having two totally separate checking accounts at two different banks, always have been!) I may also join a credit union. Long-term, I will likely apply for a 'nice' credit card through one of my banks when I think I stand a chance of being approved...

That's pretty close to what I intend to do. I've been here 8 months this time around.

Have had a a bank account open nearly since the start(not a current account and no over draft). Only got a mobile in my name a month ago and no other house bills as we are living with parents.(should have got the mobile in my name from the start though, live and learn.

I'm hoping to get an over draft next month as I will have had 6 months of pay go into my bank account. I'm also hoping to get one of those horrible interest rate cards to start off with. Do some spending on it every month and pay it automatically with direct debit.

I still think that I'm going to add the notes on to my credit files. I don't mind not being able to be approved instantly. I'd rather have a better change of getting it but having to wait. Though it might be worth trying to get the current account with an over draft and get a credit card before the note as it might be faster?

I think i have the best chance of getting the over draft. Might try to get the card first, since I'm not going to use the over draft any ways.

Well I got approved for the high interest rate card after a year of having a mobile contract and bank account...I'm sure I could get overdraft approved right now too but I figure I'll wait a little bit before putting another credit inquiry in! I don't know how long it takes to get the notes on all three companies, but if you can build a good start of credit just with a mobile/bank account, seems easier!

The good news is that simply having a bank account means it will be on your credit file, whether or not you have an overdraft.

Good steps after having your bank account for a while are to apply for a credit card issued by your bank or a sub-prime card like Vanquis.

I'm doing the exact same thing :)

I was able to get the Barclaycard Initial this month. I have been in the UK only for 11months on a settlement visa, but I have two open current accounts and I made sure to place a notice of correction on my credit report as to why I can't be on the electoral roll.

The interest rate is ridiculously high, but they extended an initial credit line of 1,200gbp so I am hoping it will go a long way in letting me build credit by using the card and paying it off in full.
