Wow... just read through this thread for the first time. So glad you're moving. That guy is seriously creepy. And, that's awful that they won't send someone else to do the inspection when you've clearly stated that you are uncomfortable with him. I hope your new place is much much better!

Thanks! Yes I can't wait to move. I don't feel excited yet :(. More like really nervous about the inspection and how that will go.

Does anyone know if he makes me feel uncomfortable and I go off on him (tell him to back away from me and respect my personal space for example!) if the agency can take back their good reference to the other agency that we will be signing contracts with the next day? They now technically consider him an employee. I just feel like he'll mark things down as in bad condition, then ask me to sign to confirm, then I have an argument with him (because I refuse to sign stupid fake inventories that he compiles himself) and not sign and he calls up the agency and then they call up the new one to say I'm difficult and a bad tenant who damages property. I haven't damaged anything by the way and it will be as clean as I can get it but it had 'damage' prior to us moving in (no inventory was taken) and I will not pay for anything that I shouldn't have to. Ugh I'm so stressed out!! I wish my little brain would just stop thinking about the worst things that can happen for once.

I thought you were going to have someone with you? Your FIL?

At least one lesson learned for the new flat--always do an inventory!  You should be okay with the new place.  Don't stress yourself there too.  Worst case scenario, you fight it through the deposit scheme and get money back a bit later.  Wear and tear is acceptable.

Yeah that's my plan but just thinking if FIL doesn't have time or something.

You're right. I always focus on the negatives. I think it'll all be okay in the end. And absolutely I'm taking pictures of everything when I move into the next place.

Make sure you change the setting on your camera so that it date-stamps the pictures. That way there's no doubt that those pictures represent the flat on the day you move in. :)

Hey guys just an update on how the inspection went (even worse than I imagined).

My fil came with me and he's the type to speak his mind. He held his tongue until creepy neighbour asked me to sign his checkout sheet and I asked for a copy. He said he wouldn't give me one. So fil nicely said 'she does need a copy'. So creepy neighbour guy started screaming 'youre not my tenant you need to be quiet and stay out of this'. So my fil said 'excuse me I will stand up for my daughter if I can see she's treated unfairly'. So creepy neighbour physically pushed me out of the way and ran to my fil and got right up to his face and started shouting like I have never seen before. I was so scared I went into shock mode where I was just really quiet. Then fil shouted something like 'my daughter is sick of you harassing her for a year now' and he screamed 'you should call the police and see what they say.' And I wish so much that I had called the police since he physically pushed me to run at my fil. But after this shout match creepy neighbour turned to me, smiled, then said in a happy chirpy voice 'okay then let's take down your meter reading'. At the end he also told me that I will get the full deposit back as nothing is wrong with the place that is my responsibility to fix.

So its been a few days now. My deposit hasn't been released. I'm in the new place now and I'm worried that creepy neighbour has perhaps called the police on me or reported me or something just to get back at me. I'm also worried they will make it hard on me to get the deposit back.
I can't believe he actually phyiscally put his hands on me and am pissed that I never called the police. If he reported me and I was in some kind of trouble, I would be informed right? Because I gave them no forwarding address or phone number. Can he lie and get me into trouble somehow?

Just read through this for the first time.. and Holy Crap!!

Frankly- I would still file a report with the police, and make a major complaint with the landlord and agency.  They should not have a man like that doing inspections and providing him with a master key.  On the deposit, sometimes it take a bit to get it returned to you. Most good agencies place your deposit in a deposit scheme for safe keeping. It might take some time to get them to release it. Or perhaps Nutbar hasn't given them the paperwork yet??? Another reason why a tenant should not be responsible with important matters such as this.

Call CAB and see what your rights are. So sorry you've gone through this.  Hope your new place is a calming place.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

OMG it is so good you are out of there! This guy is way crazy and should not be entrusted with a master key or inspections.

I agree might take a bit for the deposit to be released but once it is go ahead and make a full complaint to the agency and possibly the police.  You may be safely out of there thankfully but the next tenant might not be so lucky.

Yes to all of this! Good lord. What a messed up situation!

Go to the police now.  The statute of limitations on assault has got to be longer than a few days.  I'd also let the management company know what happened.  If you have any physical marks from the assault, call your doctor and get them documented.  From the "go tell the police" remark, it sounds like he's used to engaging in this type of behavior.  I don't believe you're the first person he's treated like this.  I'm glad you're now away from this jerk.  I hope he doesn't know where you went, and leaves you alone.

Thanks for your advice everyone.

I have no marks on me from him pushing me so I'm afraid I can't document those but I will go to the police station here today and report what happened.

I'm still shaken up about it and am feeling a lot of anger. I hope that the management company does not give him my new address. I'm 300 miles away from him but I'm still scared. Is it likely that they'll even have my new address? They did give me a reference but im not sure if this agency gave my current address to them.

I've never known a more horrible person in my life!
