Hi guys. I know lots of you have read about my birthday night out which ended with an ambulance and a night in A&E, but in case you missed it...
I was out at a pub with some friends celebrating my birthday (early, so that work wouldn't interfere), and had a great night. DH and I left around 1:45 to see if we could catch the last train since they were running later for the paralympics, but we had missed it. So we decided to go back to the pub for the last few minutes it was open, because my BIL was still there and we were going to get a cab together. I had changed into my flip flops, with little traction on them, for the walk to the station. Anyway, got back upstairs at the pub, and the floor was covered in booze. I basically started to do a split and just went down. I didn't even know I had hurt myself until I tried to get up and couldn't straighten my left knee or put any weight on it. DH had to pick me up and an ambulance was called. (I'm skipping over the part where BIL had to fight with the bouncers who wanted them to carry me down the stairs.
)
Anyway, fast forward to yesterday. I had my appointment with the specialist. He felt around the different tendons and ligaments and asked "Does this hurt?" and none of it really did, except for one little spot to the side of my knee. He said that I have some fluid in my knee and put on my note to work "patella pain." I was given a splint and referred for physio therapy. But when I got home I had pain in the middle of my knee, just to the left of where he was feeling my patella tendon, a spot that he didn't check. I had assumed the problem was the tendon all this time and that it was healing, but it's definitely not the same spot. So I did my research and I am pretty positive that I have torn the Meniscus, the fibres that connect the cartilidge. It doesn't show up in an x-ray, you have to get an MRI to know for sure. That being said, the treatment is pretty much the same as he has given me, except there is a possibility of surgery if physio is unsuccessful.
So, my question is: Should I call back to the fracture clinic and say that there is pain that I didn't mention yesterday? Or should I just wait for my first physio appointment and tell them? DH thinks the latter, but I'm feeling kind of unsure about it.
