Border agency making random checks in homes

Did any other women on here do the 'I am going to be the perfect housewife!' when they first came over, like I did?
My house was SPOTLESS for about... 10 weeks. It was spotless when the inspector came by! I got lucky on that one.

I think this is more a newlywed thing than an expat thing.  All my married friends have said the same thing.

I, of course, dodged that bullet by moving in with my MIL.  Lucky me?

Not an expat thing. I'm not married.  Nor did I move for love.  My house has never been and will never be clean.  Regardless of if or when I ever should marry. 
Something that makes my boyfriend, who I don't live with, cry.  A lot. 

So yeah, I don't think the home office would like my house much either!  

Same here. Flat was usually very tidy when I first moved, now it's a total mess. Though it's partly due to the fact that I wasn't working then and now I am. I simply had more time and energy for it. I make dinner and do the washing up and I also pack his lunch so my Mister doesn't complain.

I'm married...I'm the same...my house is spotless because I married a neat freak. It's AWESOME.

I kick my shoes off the second I get in the door, every morning I wake up and they're either put away or neatly by the door waiting for me. Ditto my handbag, which gets thrown somewhere, replaced on the little shelf by the door. I can never find anything, he knows where everything is.

I'd be totally screwed without him though :/ that, or hire a butler. A hot one. 


 

They came to my MIL unannounced when I was applying for my visitors or my fiance visa (not sure whicH) prob visitors) as I was turned back at Heathrow  and had to get visa took 11 months .. and I got letter from her saying I was going to stay there (did not get her deed as I felt it was asking too much as I had never met them ) so SUPRISE a visit I only found this out about 4 months ago and I have been married a year already

I'd be more worried my house was a mess if they came unannounced. That happened this summer with the water meter (?) guy. He was super nice, but here I was in the morning, still in pjs (and no bra!) with dirty dishes in the sink where he had to go check under for the meter! I was so embarrassed!

Honestly, I wouldn't be worried if UKBA came to check out our marriage. Nothing to hide.

Even when I'm innocent, it makes me uncomfortable when I'm being questioned by someone in a position of authority. Although I've got nothing to hide, I always have the thought "They could ruin this for me if they wanted to" in my head.

Another thing I'd have to worry about if these random home checks were real is the fact that my husband and I are still living with his drunken mother and son, for two more weeks. Absolute slobs. Plates of old food, clothing, garbage, strewn all over the floor. It's the filthiest house I've ever seen. My husband and I have just given up trying to keep the house clean. There is simply too much mess for us to keep up with, and we pretty much stay in our bedroom when we are at this house. Anyway, I'd be embarrassed if a home-checker came here because of course, the line, "that's not my mess" or "I didn't do that" is so cliche and unbelievable.

Sorry to interrupt but back to topic (but you can continue if you wish).

I've decided to move out of this bedsit- too many strange requests and accusations, drunken or not, and incongruencies. I realised it is a council house and that the owner is renting out the room illegally (to me). Naive me. I gave her notice last week and she has been rather lackadaisical about finding another lodger, though when I first informed her she seemed concerned about giving me back my deposit. This Friday will be my last day and she still hasn't found a lodger. She (or, rather, a family member) renewed her advert and just to be safe I posted one as well on another site. I ask when I return if she has shown the room to anyone and twice she mentioned some names of people who replied to my advert. But I am dreading that she is lying to me once more and that I won't get my deposit back.

If she is in fact scamming me, I intend to report her to both the council and police. Will I ever get my money back that way? That's quite a large amount as I'm a student.

Oooh treacle, that sounds like my former landlord (see thread).  Which borough do/did you live in?

I sent a complaint to the H&F borough last week since I have not received my deposit yet (about 6 weeks since I moved out).  Every time I call her, noone answers.  I've sent several texts.  Hopefully the borough will investigate her since I forwarded several fraud claims against her (including claiming disability benefits for a son who does not even live with her, or even in the UK). I have yet to contact HMRC though for tax evasion on unclaimed rental income. I was planning to last week but their online reporting page was down.  This thread has reminded me to do it now.  Thanks.
