Where do they sell grape jelly besides buying them online.
« on: October 10, 2012, 09:02:44 PM »
I told my husband how people would eat PB+J sandwiches and he told me he have not try it before.  Thinking I might be able to get some grape jelly from the local supermarket, I was wrong, they are no where to be found.  Did you spot any?
=)

Cybercandy or Whole Foods, since I'm in London.

I'm in Norwich and haven't been able to find any locally either. They have black currant instead... Which is ok, but just not the same as concord grape jelly! If I could find decent grapes I'd just make my own. At the moment we are just using homemade strawberry jam, honeysuckle flower jelly and banana jam. I'll definitely be bringing back some of my homemade jelly when I visit the states next as well as a few jars of bought grape jelly!

Also, have you tried nutella/chocolate spread with jelly/jam sandwiches? So much better tasting than peanut butter, but a lot less healthy as well!

My husband had never eaten nor even heard of a pb&j sandwich before I moved here either!

Sorry I can't help on the grape jelly.

My husband thought a pb&j sandwich consisted of peanuts, butter and gelatin. No wonder he thought it sounded gross. :)

Does it have to be grape jelly? It's not something we have here, and I don't have it when I go to the States as I find it bland.

I've made PB&J sandwich with strawberry jam, even with marmalade!

I'm in Norwich and haven't been able to find any locally either.

House of Frasers in Norwich carries jelly off and on (it located on the top floor by virgin travel) and it is the kind of thing that the sweet shop on london street and the one by specsavers carries as well. Soometimes they only have the goobers kind with the peanutbutter and jelly in one jar. :)

Oh I was craving PB&J the other day...with grape jelly. OH well. Chicklet loves raspberry jam so that's what we normally have in the house. For lunch the other day she had peanut butter, a thin layer of nutella (her other fav), and some raspberry jam. I have to say it looked yummy. Every once in awhile, I have peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Hubby dislikes peanut butter, unless its in cookies  ;D

I never really like pb+j, only ate it 2-3 times in my life.
Though it's only when I came to UK, find all sorts of jam/jelly but no grape, so I wonder why???  My husband never try it before and so I wanted to get some for him to eat.

Same reason you don't find blackcurrant jam in US supermarkets. It's a different country and people have different tastes.

Currant farming was actually banned in the US in the early part of the 20th century. A few states still ban it even now.

We have grape everything because that was the replacement.

If you can stand the eyewatering prices & you've got the shop near you, you might find it in Harvey Nics Food Hall - I've seen the Goober stuff there before, along with the £7 box of Lucky Charms & other American goods (similar to House of Fraser as a source).  At one time, they were selling a S'Mores 'kit' for something like £15-20, with the marshmallows, Hersheys, and one measly sleeve (not even a whole box) of graham crackers.  :-X

I've bought things before there like Kansas City-made BBQ sauce, hot sauces, and once - brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts.  ;)

I've made PB&J sandwich with strawberry jam, even with marmalade!
This is what I have always done, even back in the US.  There are so many yummy kinds of jams and I've tried them all with peanut butter.  My hubby thinks orange marmalade and peanut butter is just not right, but to me marmalade is just another type of fruit jam and therefore perfectly acceptable in a pb and j sandwich.

I never knew that! Thanks for the information!
