New, bit of an imposter, moving to uk in June
« on: October 05, 2012, 01:32:37 PM »
Hi, ok so i am a bit of an imposter on this site as i am from the UK  ;) We have been living in Fl for the past 7+ years and have 3 children ages 16,14+10.

We have decided to move back to the UK in June (ish) so the kids can finish off the school year here.

lots of reasons for moving back - mainly as we are on an E2 visa i cant work and we are living on 1 paycheck which is barely keeping us afloat.
The visa renewal is so stressful and expensive - is it worth it?
kids are unable to work (16 yr old wants to work but can't)
Health care even with insurance is so expensive

I'm sure you guys have the same problems in the UK as what we do here.

My reason for coming to this forum is to find out about people who have moved with children and how they settled into school - we have not been back to the UK for 4 years, we have picked up the American way of life and the kids know no different - they have a wonderful school here and i am apprehensive about the culture shock for them when getting back into the school system. any advice on what you experienced would be great!
 :) Nicky

You're not an impostor! There are a few of us around who are from the UK. I'm sure others will give you some advice about moving with children - sorry, I don't have any. But welcome to UKY!  :)

Hi I am interested to see what replies you get. I have lived in the US for 25 years and am thinking of returning. My daughter, who is 27 has lived in the US since she was 2. She has an eight year old son. She is a single mum and has sole custody, physical and legal, of her son. They both have UK passports. I am unemployed and have no health insurance and not many prospects here. It's frightening. My husband only works part time and we are struggling. My daughter has considered moving to the UK, she has health problems which are classified as pre existing conditions for which she pays a lot for. I wonder how the NHS had declined over the years. She is a lab tech by trade.  We are in MS

I was under the impression that the cost of living is high in the UK; so it doesn't make sense to me that if you are struggling in the US that it would be better in the UK. Jobs are just as hard to find in the UK and from what I know, the pay is a little less.  I'm no expert on this; just giving my 2 cents; would hate to see anyone worse off in any way.  in any event, good luck to you!
