American and Japanese moving to London with our new baby!
« on: October 08, 2012, 10:00:23 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I wanted to say hello to the UK Yankee members and look forward to chatting in the forum and meeting some of you in person. I have browsed through this board and found some amazing discussions and very helpful people on here. I think our move from Tokyo to London will be a lot smoother now that we found this website!

My wife and I are moving from Tokyo to London with our newborn baby. My wife is Japanese born and raised and I am originally from California and have lived in Japan for the past 7 years. This will be the first time my wife has lived away from home, and with a new born baby.

I'm hoping to find others on this board with similar interests and/or backgrounds. My wife speaks English and Japanese, but I know if she could speak Japanese from time to time it would make her feel a little more at ease. Any Japanese mothers out their with kids, I'm sure my wife would enjoy hanging out and having the company.

Thanks again for the advice in these forum posts, they have been extremely helpful. Look forward to making new friends!

Welcome and congrats on the baby!

When are you moving to London and what's taking you there?
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!

Good to meet you! My wife and I love Japan, she even speaks some Japanese though I'm pretty useless with it! We're moving to London as well; we have a daughter but she's three so a bit older. We've been living in Hong Kong so quite a jaunt but we probably have a lot in common having lived in Asia! My wife isn't Asian but she is Dutch, also foreign, so we have that in common too.
The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams
