Visa profits
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:46:05 AM »
THIS massively winds me up:

Quote
Border Agency made £225m out of migrants already in UK
Highly-skilled workers pay £1,500 for visa that costs just £181 as agency’s profits soar
http://www.exaronews.com/articles/4569/uk-border-agency-accused-of-charging-excessive-fees-for-visas

This, combined with the fact that it currently takes SO EFFING LONG to process. I've been 2 months without my passport (my only legal ID in the UK) waiting for an FLR(M) visa already, and based on other posts in the Immigrations forum, am expecting to wait another 4 months. I know they're short-staffed/ had the Olympics to worry about/ made asinine rule changes that precipitated a deluge of applications, but surely this profit margin could pay for hiring more staff to process the visa applications that we overpay for by 150% or more!!!
FLR(M) application sent: 4/7/12
Acknowledged: 14/7/12
Biometrics: 6/9/12 (9 week wait)
BRP returned: 28/2/13
Passport/documents returned: 1/3/13

Unfortunately it works both ways.  I'm sure the its the same for immigrants trying to get to the US as well.

Its sad but  unfortunately the goverment of each country controls the key...
