Hello, hello.
« on: November 10, 2012, 09:50:06 PM »
I'm 22 and I've been interested in moving to the UK most of my life, but I've only just now started to look into it.
It's slightly frustrating though because I haven't had much luck on where to really start, other than getting my passport and figuring out which visa would work. I've also thought about going to university there as well.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or have any tips that would be awesome, thank you.

Welcome.

Without some serious qualifications (degrees, work in a shortage field) or a UK partner with a good job, it's nearly impossible. Even with those things, it's very tough!

Some things to think about:
-Do you have any recent (grandparents or closer) European heritage? Dual citizenship is a decent path.
-Do you have a degree and work experience in a shortage field (engineering, certain areas of teaching, etc.?) or have you worked for a US company for at least a year that has a UK office? A tier 2 visa might work for you.
-Do you have enough money (or access to loans) to cover international tuition and living expenses at a school able to extend you sponsorship? It's very much a "money-up-front" requirement.

What you want is not impossible, it's just not easy. :) A little more about you might help us point you in the right direction.

That's what I've been figuring out as I look around.

Unfortunately while I am of English, Scottish and German decent, none are recent enough to use for dual citizenship.
I'm thinking I'll have to go back to school here, or take out loans to go to school there. But I do know I want to go into biology.

As much as I'd like to get over there, I'm feeling like it's going to take a while.
