Hello to all
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:46:39 AM »
I'm American, living in the Pacific Northwest.  Planning to move to the south of England to join the love of my life, date undetermined.  I've visited the UK several times, have (distant) family there and several friends.   Planning my next visit shortly, but looking forward to the day I no longer have to say good-bye.

I know how tough those goodbyes are!
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!

Welcome!

My husband is a Pacific Northwesterner too.  I've loved being shown around that beautiful part of the country in the last few years.  If you ever get homesick for the forests, there is a valley in deepest darkest Wales that made my husband go all funny because it felt exactly like being on one of the trails in his local park!

Hiya and welcome! :)

We all know how tough those goodbyes can be. :(

There is tons of info and lots of great, knowledgeable people on this forum that will help guide you in your move to the UK. It's not an easy process by any means, but so worth it in the end. :)

Thank you for the welcome.  Yes, I'm already feeling all squishy inside in anticipation of that blasted good bye.  Being together has been sooooo long in coming for us already.  I can't wait for this phase to be over.

Welcome!

You'll have to tell me where that is!  I will miss this area tremendously when I leave (I've only actually been here for a year), and the mountains and forests are what I will miss most.  Not nearly so much as I miss HIM, but still...

Thank you!  What part of the PNW are you in?  I'm in the greater Seattle area.

I'm on Whidbey. :) Does Seattle feel like the dead of winter all of the sudden now too?

Wow, howdy neighbor!  :)  I haven't been out there yet, but I've been wishing to go like you wouldn't believe!

It did get noticeably chillier yesterday, but I am told it's supposed to turn rainy and cold tomorrow, so am bracing myself.  To be fair though, this is only my second winter here.  I'm originally from Florida. I've always hated the heat, and I was so excited when the opportunity came for me to move here, because (among other things) I figured the weather here would be good practice for me for my ultimate destination.  ;)

I loved last winter, despite the record-breaking snows, and I hope this year is as beautiful.  I figure I can always put on another sweater (uhmm, jumper) or jacket, but there's only so much you can take off when you're living on the surface of the sun.   It's so beautiful here, I truly feel blessed every time I'm out driving around.  It doesn't make me miss him any less, but it makes the waiting a little less miserable.

I have a friend who lives on Whidbey! She generally lives part of the year in the UK, but is on Whidbey the rest of the year!

Whidbey is beautiful and I highly recommend making sure you explore it before you leave.  :)

The snows sure were something last year. In my experience it seems to snow any noticeable amount every other year, so you may be safe from it this year. Then again it snowed last year and the year before and the year before that (all good amounts) so who knows, lol.

I do hear you on the thought of being cold over being hot. I loved this summer here, it was perfect but this cold weather and rain now is a welcome relief really. But I do really love the sun!

So how long have you and your boyfriend been together?

This is more one of those epic tales rather than something that is cut and dried.  We met almost 26 years ago now, and there was an instant connection.  I squandered it however, and we lost touch for many years.  We reconnected just 2 years ago now.  Almost 2 years exactly.

I don't know! Sorry! She was renting a house there but everything's in flux at the moment so I don't know if she'll be staying.

Hi! I live on the coast of Oregon and I'm moving in 10 days to Guernsey in the English Channel. The weather there is exactly the same as here so I don't think that part of things is going to stress me out. The thing that I have missed while visiting over there are the big tall trees. They just don't have them in the same numbers as here. Welcome to the forum. ;D
August 8 - Completed fiance application
August 14 - Did biometrics
August 15 - Paid for priority processing and sent application
August 16 - Application arrived in New York
August 17 - Email recieved that application was opened
October 8 - Email that fiance visa was approved
October 9 - Got my visa! :-)

Ohhh.... so jealous.  All the best to you in your move though.  I don't know Guernsey at all, other than basically where it is, but I hope that you find enough happiness there that the trees seem a smaller thing.  I totally get what you're saying though.  I am astounded almost daily by how beautiful it is here.  If it weren't for my honey, I might have to reconsider moving to the UK! (not really)

The Pacific Northwest is totally gorgeous and I feel really lucky to have lived here. Guernsey is really green and beautiful like here because of the similarity in terms of weather.  :)
