Tier 2 General Restricted Visa
« on: January 24, 2013, 05:00:34 AM »
I am in the process of obtaining a Tier 2 General "Restricted" work visa. I will be sponsored by my future employer in the UK through a CoS. I currently work in the US as a Manufacturing Engineer/Machinist in the Aerospace industry and double as a photographer making most of my income from the former.

Under this visa will I still be able to work and get paid in my second job as a photographer or be "restricted" to making all of my earnings through my sponsorship? I'm having a hard time finding any general rules of this visa. It would be a bummer to be forced to turn my fun way to earn extra income into just a hobby.

What do you mean by a 'restricted' visa? All Tier 2 General visas have the same rules and restrictions... They all require company sponsorship and a CoS.

The general rules of the Tier 2 visa are all clearly laid out on the UKBA website on the Tier 2 General pages.

See here for rules on working in other jobs on the visa:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/tier2/general/workingandconditions/#header2

Looking on that page, you cannot work in another job unless it is in the same sector and at the same level as your sponsored job, or unless the second job is listed on the skills shortage list for Tier 2 visas.

Thanks ksand24! I spent hours on the UKBA website looking for that info. Well that is not the news I wanted to hear but it is what it is. I plan on changing to a spousal visa as soon as I would be allowed to. From what I understand this would allow me to work for my future employer as well as work as a photographer.

The H.R. rep at my future company described the visa as a Tier 2 General Restricted. I had never heard of this before. Thanks for the help!  :)
