Step down transformer for US PS2 recommendations?
« on: November 26, 2012, 01:07:56 PM »
I'm looking for recommendations for a step down transformer for my US playstation 2. I am already ordering the component cable for it and one for my wii, along with a new power cord for the wii.

The ps2 draws 120v, 60 hz, and 79w.

I loosely understand the VA rating, and I think as a minimum I'd need something a bit over ~135VA minimum, so a 200-300VA should be ok. I'm not planning on running anything else on the transformer.

Does anyone have any recommendations (preferably from personal experience) on what rating transformer to purchase?

Thanks in advance!

PS - yes, it is cheaper to purchase a transformer and the cables than it would be to replace the system and all of my nearly 30 games here in the UK.

are you sure you need a transformer for a PS2 rather than just a plug adaptor?
I would have thought that like a laptop it would work on the different voltages it should say something like AC 100V-240V on the power brick

There is no "power brick." Just a cord like this:

Speaking of which, I seem to have left mine in the states, so will need to purchase one of those as well. I feel like cursing at the stupid thing at the moment... Here's to hoping that the cord turns up somewhere.

ETA - The model number of the ps2 is 39001.

ahh ok I must have had the slim version where there was an external powersupply.
I have seen these guys recommended in here before:

After trying to find a replacement power cable for this thing online, I think it will be less stressful and much cheaper to just get my mother to find and ship the cable from the states. I really am upset with myself for leaving the cable behind, since I had it out and ready to pack! Oh well. It's the Wii that I'm mostly concerned with playing for now, so the PS2 might be able to wait a bit. I'm still looking for specific specifications for what kind of transformer I need.

As in, I'm thinking of getting one like this:

But would I be better off going ahead and getting one like this?:
