Hey All,

My wife is currently applying for her UK Settlement visa with her main US passport, so that is away in New York for processing. It seems we greatly underestimated the length of time it would take to apply for this visa and we will not be getting it back before Christmas.

We have booked to do Christmas with my folks in Hong Kong this year, and leave the US on the 12th of Dec. Part of our trip to HK includes a 3 day stop in the UK.

I am wondering if it is possible for her to enter as a visitor to the UK on her second passport (in the US you can apply for a second passport if you travel a lot and need a spare one while your main one is in processing) and not upset the border authority.

Note that unlike this thread: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=49629.0 [nofollow] we are not intending to stay in the UK on the second passport in place of a visa (not entering under false pretenses) and so, as far as I can tell, shouldn't run into trouble.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It is probably an uncommon situation :/

Called World Bridge, apparently this is perfectly fine. Updating this in case anyone else wonders this in the future.

I don't know the answer, but I'd be careful about advice from Worldbridge. They've been known to give outrageously bad advice in the past, like telling an applicant who wasn't yet married to apply for a spouse visa rather than a fiancée visa.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

I absolutely agree with DrSuper. I also don't think this sounds very kosher, and I would be very wary about doing so.

chrisscott - Here's hoping you come back to this thread before you travel.

Read the application your wife signed, especially the part about material changes. While it might be kosher for her to travel to the UK on a duplicate US passport, the entry would be a material change to her application for a spousal visa.

In short, it's against the rules.
