These posts are so echoing my feelings. I hate shopping for new maternity stuff.  It can be so discouraging.  On the other hand, now and again you find a little something nice, and it's kind of fun because you have an easy excuse for a new wardrobe.

High streets and I don't get on well. I'm six feet tall and about an 18, which makes sizing on the high street difficult. I'm not sure where people expect us to buy stuff if you aren't a petite skinny minny.  I've kept my eye out here and there.  With DD2 I accidentally ran into a sale at an outlet store for mamas and papas or one of those shops and managed to pick up a bunch of discounted stuff.  I wore those into the ground.

The trick with pregnancy shopping is to not go browsing for too long.  You'll get worn out and discouraged fast. I find that instead of going in looking, it's wise to go into the store, immediately look for a sales rep, and ask outright "do you carry maternity clothes, and where can I find them?" Then you can use your browsing energy for looking at clothes rather than searching for the right section.  Most high street shops don't label their maternity sections well, and I often miss them if I'm just looking around, so it pays to just ask up front.

This time I've been lucky because I had several things that I had saved and a friend had her last recently and is my size, so she gave me bags of her maternity hand-me-downs.  It was great.  I recently started pulling them out and it was like Christmas.  Instant new wardrobe!!!

Now if I could just find a pair of trousers and jeans that would actually stay up for me . . .

I had a hard time finding affordable leggings in different colors over here, so my MIL sent me some from Ireland. There was a pair of Red Herring maternity leggings, so I know they have a small section of maternity at Debenhams. Fortunately I was pregnant in the summer, so I could get away with dresses! Also, I wore a tunic from H&M all throughout my pregnancy that wasn't a maternity shirt. You might want to try looking for something like that.

Have you tried Uniqlo? They do pretty good leggings, not maternity though.

A friend of mine who was pregnant swore by ASOS maternity pencil skirts as they were just stretchy tubes she could pull over her bump. She tucked in until the skirt needed to go well over her bump then switched to having tops over it.

There's a sale on at ASOS at the moment and a couple of things there that look like they'd be comfy/useful for about £12, like this

I have no idea though, my "bump" is entirely made of cake and brie :D

When I was pregnant I liked it when things went over my bump. I couldn't stand for it to sit below my bump, so my non-maternity leggings didn't least long. But, that's totally a personal preference and I know other women feel the opposite about things on their bump. Those are some cute things on ASOS and good prices. That's another thing...who wants to spend a fortune on something you where for such a short period of time??

Thanks tmfigy! I'd love to meet up! (Also, are you doing any ante-natal courses or anything?  We are having a look about now...)

I got some things in from Next.  They're pretty good, but I think I am just uncomfortable with having a bump--I feel like the current fashion is often to have things that "stretch" over the bump (although ASOS seems to have more empire waist type stuff), and I guess I'm just....oddly uncomfortable with "looking" pregnant? Who knows.

I must admit that the maternity tights are amazing though.  I don't feel squished!

Great!!!  will PM you.

Not taking any classes as this is #3.  First time around took a BF class and antenatal class offered by the midwives where we were living.  Both were helpful but probably didn't learn as much from the ante natal one besides some helpful hints etc.  Had #2 in the US and nothing was really offered.

I hear you on the "bump" I sort of hate the switchover to Maternity clothes they magically make your bump look huge even if the day before you were in a normal top.  Oh well this and the many other joys of getting to the due date:)
